Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă announced at the annual American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference that her government had decided to move its embassy to Jerusalem.
Dăncilă, who said addressing AIPAC on Sunday that she “admired” President Donald Trump for moving the U.S. embassy last year, did not name a deadline.
“I, the Prime Minister of Romania, and the government I run will move our embassy to Jerusalem the capital of the state of Israel,” she said to a standing ovation.
She said that Romania also would extend citizenship to descendants of Jews forced out during the communist period and would create special compensations for Romanian Holocaust survivors.
“Romania’s president on Sunday chastised his prime minister for declaring that Bucharest would relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, saying the announcement reflected her lack of knowledge of diplomacy. Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, who in the past has pushed back against politicians seeking to move the embassy, said the final decision on whether to move the mission in Israel “rests with me.”
