A person driving a car in Boro Park recklessly swerved onto the sidewalk this morning, nearly striking a line of young children getting off a bus to go into their yeshivah.
Video of the frightening incident shows a driver abruptly turning onto the sidewalk on 53rd Street between 18th and 19th avenues at about 10 o’clock this morning.
It stopped at the place where children where getting off a bus to go into Yeshivah Imrei Chaim of Vizhnitz, but immediately began inching forward, confusing the children. Several darted across while other held back.
The rebbi, who appeared shocked to see a car on the sidewalk, attempting to hold back his charges, but at least two of the students went anyhow. The car then sped down the street to the corner, where he made a right turn and merged back into road traffic.

Problem with that is: what about people who have those double-wide strollers? They wouldn’t be able to get through either.
there is a joke:
if you don’t like the way I drive, get off the sidewalk!!!
Just one or two posts or pillars placed strategically in the center of the sidewalk and this would never again be a problem!
i agree with number 13!! its not a joke!! whats if he looked at his phone for a second, and could of totally hit somebody!!!
This was a very dangerous maneuver. I can’t believe some people here are downplaying it. This driver should be arrested and charged with reckless endangerment. Yes, you can be arrested for a trafic violation. Just because police usually just give a ticket, does not mean they can’t arrest somone under certain circumstances.
Probably just a teacher running a little late lol.
In all seriousness this guy will be getting big fine, huge violation.
I imagine that they would collect his info…
You just need one small pillar in middle of the side walk to prevent a car from driving there, like they do in all big shopping ears in Manhattan there’s a row of small pillars, you don’t need so many, just one in middle of the sidewalk in the begging & end of the block
I always try to drive before 2 in Boro Park because all the crazies get out of bed that time. I guess this one got up early? It’s dangers and I’m not joking!
Make the sidewalks smaller to prevent such a thing again.
Can you imagine if there was an incident? What’s it going to cost him his life? Maybe he’ll be in handcuffs? Maybe he’ll be sent to this police station? And we could go on and on and on because of his foolish mistakes better to wait 2 and 1/2 minutes extra by a traffic light and be late to wherever he is going then to make a foolish incident mistake that can cost him his life…… now let me ask you what is he thinking????????
I hope no kids are hurt
The driver was just in a hurry. Saw that thr school bus in front of him put his lightd on and hell have to wait. So he was original, dangerous and not responsible. He found himself a short cut
I guess you were either the driver, or you also do this kind of thing. I did no know that cars were allowed to drive on sidewalks.
Certainly deserving of a fine or traffic violation ticket at least, so it shouldn’t happen again! Hope they got his license plate number. They could install iron bars or poles on the sidewalk to prevent cars from entering if needed.
This likely wasn’t a hate crime as the impatient driver valued saving himself a few seconds of time over the safety of others.
Why was the car on the sidewalk?
Very inaccurate title and synopsis.
The driver cleary turned on to the sidewalk quite intentionally and was not trying to hit the kids. As you can see, he slowed down and waited for them to cross.
There is no need to add drama.
