A window of a Brooklyn synagogue was smashed on the Sabbath while the rabbi and his family, including young children, were inside.
A large plate glass window was shattered in front of Chabad of Bushwick on Flushing Avenue, Rabbi Menachem Heller said.
Heller said his family, including nine children, stays at the center on the Sabbath.
They saw two people walking away from the scene.
Heller said they walked across the street and asked people to call 911 because, as observant Jews, they don’t use their phones on the Sabbath. They also flagged down police officers.
The city has seen a sharp increase in reported hate crimes so far in 2019, the NYPD said. Police had investigated 42 hate crimes through Feb. 4, compared with 19 at the same point last year. Most of those were anti-semitic.
City Council should have a fund for all religious houses of worship and religious / cultural centers ( e.g. the Chabad house example) for vandalism.

You can get cameras cheap at major outlet electronic stores. You can put three cameras up for 300 or 400 dollars and catch all sides of the street. Im sure if a chabad house contacted electronic Distributers run by frum yidden they can even get it donated.
Many have mentioned cameras. Chabad houses run on a shoestring budget. Send in a donation to be used specifically for cameras. There’s never extra money unless it’s designated for the cause!
If you are in a dangerous area you need cameras and even attack dogs. The truth is that antisemitism is not on the rise. It’s just that liberal secular jewish groups are highlighting these incidents to make Trump look bad. When obama was around it was far worse. It’s just that everything was swept under the rug
The fact that today we still have to enlighten people that they need cameras It’s pretty disturbing
To Michael #7.
Agreed about the cameras. Definitely for it wouldn’t matter what caused it or why it happened.
Antisemitic hasn’t been ruled out. Just an assumption of mine. Let’s respect each other’s thought. Liberal conservative whichever.
so sorry to hear this news. love that place and miss you guys.
Sending comfort
nice liberal thoughts, michael. but when it comes to antisemitic attacks, lets have reality as our default assumption. security camera’s please.
understanding there is recently an up-rise in Anti Jewish hate crimes. but there area there is full of bars many times passing through seeing persons intoxicated, perhaps just maybe it was a drunken crashing into the store front window, just thinking aloud
ALL CHABAD HOUSES YOU MUST PUT UP CAMERAS.
YOU MUST MAKE IT A PRIORITY.
Ah, the liberal left is so sensitive to people of color and the alternative lifestyle community, but when it comes to even greater physical violence / property attacks against Jews, their newspapers and talk shows turn a blind eye.
The Hellers are and their Chabad House are much beloved by a real variety of people in their shlichus.
Oh my!
This is absolutely terrible!
