A group of Chabad Shluchim in Florida attended a private reception the morning of the inauguration for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Rabbi Schneur and Chanie Oirechman and Rabbi Mark Rosenberg, executive director of Chesed Shel Emes of Florida and first FHP Jewish Chaplain in Florida presented the Governor and first lady with a plaque and a chocolate basket.
Shluchim in attendance were Rabbi Shalom Dubov of Orlando, Rabbi Chaim Konikov of Brevard, Rabbi Nochum Kurinsky of Jacksonville Beaches where the new governor is from and Rabbi Mendy Bronstein of Altamonte Springs. Also in attendance was Dovi Katz of CSE Florida.
The governor gave a very warm welcome to the shluchim and spoke about his first connection to Chabad with Rabbi Kurinsky, when he was running for Congress. The governor is a good friend and supporter of the State of Israel and mentioned that he will take his first trade mission trip to Israel.
This event was followed by the traditional prayer breakfast where Rabbi Oirechman delivered remarks on the weekly Parsha and the leadership of Moshe and the Rebbe’s lesson from it.
Following the breakfast, the Rabbis attended the swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol and met with the governor’s new Chief of Staff Shane Strum, FDLE Commissioner Rick Swearingen and director of Florida Highway Patrol Colonel Spaulding.
