Yartzeit of Rabbi Avraham Hecht

Family and friends of Rabbi Avraham Dov Hecht OBM marked his sixth Yartzeit with an event at the Ohel Chabad Lubavitch in Queens.

A ceremony commemorating the sixth Yahrtzeit of Rabbi Avraham Dov Hecht, of blessed memory, was held at the Ohel Chabad in close proximity to the resting place of the Lubavitcher Rebbe on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 – the 24th day of Tevet 5779.

The Kaddish Memorial Prayer was recited by his son, Rabbi Yehoshua Hecht, Presidium Chairman of the Rabbinical Alliance of America/Igud HaRabonim and Rabbi of Beth Israel Chabad of Norwalk, CT. The Kel Moley Rachamim was chanted by Rabbi Yaakov Klass, Presidium Member of the Rabbinical Alliance of America/Igud HaRabonim, and Torah Editor of the Jewish Press.

Also, in attendance were Rebbetzin Rochel Wineberg of Michigan and Rebetzin Shoshana Fasten of New York, daughters of Rabbi Avraham Hecht.

Rabbi Avraham Hecht is fondly remembered as a brilliant Torah scholar and orator who was among the foremost rabbinic leaders of our day and served with the greatest distinction the American and World Jewish community.

In his capacity as President of the Rabbinical Alliance of America/Igud HaRabonim, Rabbi Hecht was mentor to hundreds of rabbis who consulted him for advice. He also served as the Spiritual leader at Shaare Zion, the largest Sephardic congregation in North America, where he selflessly guided many thousands in the ways of Torah and Mitzvah observance.

Following the prayers at the graveside, a Yahrtzeit collation was held at the Ohel Chabad, where words of Torah and inspiration were shared.

The following distinguished rabbis participated in the event: Rabbi Moshe Weiner, Rav U’Machshir of the Kashrus Alliance of the Rabbinical Alliance of America/Igud HaRabonim; Rabbi Moish Schmerler, Director, Rabbinical Alliance of America/Igud HaRabonim; Rabbi Gil Student, Director of Halacha Commission, Rabbinical Alliance of America/Igud HaRabonim and Rabbi Dovid Katz, Menahel, Rabbinical Alliance of America/Igud HaRabonim.

The observance was organized by Rabbi Mendy Mirocznik, Executive Vice President of the Rabbinical Alliance and by Rabbi Yehoshua Hecht, Chairman of the RAA Presidium.
