An eerie photo taken in front of a synagogue in North Hollywood, CA is making its way around social media, provoking reactions of fear, anger and disgust.
A user identified as Noah Oiknine on Facebook says he took the picture himself Friday afternoon. In a post on the social media site, he recalled seeing a man with his head covered and sword in his hand making threatening gestures towards the Chabad of North Hollywood.
Brian Levin is a domestic terrorism expert. He says tensions are high among some in the Jewish community after the mass synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh.
“We just had the worst act of anti-Semitic violence in American history,” Levin said.
“Anytime you see a picture like that, you gotta take it seriously,” he continued. “And there’s also federal laws governing interference and harassment of religious institutions and affiliated buildings.”
There have been incidents of hate crime in Los Angeles as well.
Last month, 32-year-old Mohamed Abdi Mohamed, of Seattle, was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly trying to run down two people outside of a synagogue in Hancock Park.
“Synagogue security is a big deal – as well as other houses of worship that we’re seeing nationally,” Levin added.
CBS2/KCAL9 spoke with a spokesperson for the local Council on American-Islamic Relations. They said they did not know if the person depicted in the photo has a connection to the Muslim community nor if the incident was real or a hoax; however, they said they stand in solidarity with the Jewish community and are glad no one was hurt.
Absolutely not, and yes, the facts will come out soon. The question is what are you??
CAIR have been exposed for supporting Islamic terrorist groups. They are all about public relations, but behind the scenes they are very much part of the problems that Jews face all around the world.
They have been responsible for promoting anti-Semitism and are their most senior leaders are closely tied to Hamas.
I mean, really. I don’t care if he was harmless, that is extremely disturbing. Yes we all need to go about our day to day lives, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be on the lookout or be disturbed by this.
Lock this guy … was he taken to the custody ?
Name is David! Needs psych help. A drug addict, …and very violent. All this will come out in a report soon.
If the democrats have their way they would flood Anerican cities with tons of moslems. Keep jewish communities safe. Vote Trump.
There was an incident in paris few years ago where a Muslim man who before the incident threatened to kill Jews, (the French police did nothing when contacted btw) a short while after he broke in to a Jewish woman’s home (a Lubavitch woman who was a teacher as well) stabbed her multiple times & threw her out the window from 4 or 6 Flores high obviously killing her, he wasn’t charged with murder or hate or anything like that bc they decided that he was mentally ill. A similar case happened less then a year ago with an old… Read more »
1. To say ‘relax cuz he’s mentally ill” makes no sense. A lot of mentally ill people have done horrible horrible things.
2.Unfortunately, we opened up our borders and r going to suffer the consequences.
Don’t get sidetracked by some statement. Especially if it gives them cover for the other stuff they do. You can say it’s still good or otherwise, but don’t get sidetracked by it
id like to see your reaction if someone was threatening you with a sword. i wonder if you would tell everyone to chill out then.
Yup my friend, Muslims make Muslims look bad
Always appreciative of all the solidarity we can get. Thank you to CAIR for the kind and supportive statement. Hoping our two communities can build more bridges and come together even more.
Oy vey may Hashem stop all this
What do you mean chill out? We can not relax, it doesnt matter if someone is mentally incapacitated or any other reason. This cannot be just dismissed.
He was already arrested and was not threatening anyone. The guy is a bit mental and was angry at some killing in Beirut so wanted to film something for his social media page by the shul. He does have a record so will probably go away for a bit for having a machete in public.
