Ambassador Joins Pantry Packers

Pantry Packers, the food packaging and distribution facility in Jerusalem welcomed the US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, who volunteered in the packing process alongside his wife Tammy and a delegation of employees and family members of the US Embassy.

Taking part in the volunteering work that saw over 1,000 packages of whole wheat pasta packed by the Embassy group, the Ambassador said, “It’s the most important thing – People cannot be hungry. Hunger doesn’t discriminate between Jews, Muslims or Christians and here at Pantry Packers they deliver food to the entire nation based upon need. Not based upon their religion, not based upon where they live, but based upon what they need.”

As the group finished tapping up the last of the boxes, said, “It’s been a really great experience and I want to recognize the great work that Colel Chabad and Pantry Packers do and you should be congratulated for all you do.”

Pantry Packers is an initiative of Colel Chabad, Israel’s longest continuously-running charitable organization, founded in 1788. An increasingly popular destination for tourists and local Israelis looking to volunteer in a fun and meaningful way, the facility packs and distributes tens of thousands of packages each week which are then delivered to hungry families all over Israel.

“It was a great honor to host the Ambassador and the Embassy staff,” said Rabbi Menachem Traxler, Director of Pantry Packers. “This visit was a further indication of the strong feeling of support that Colel Chabad has felt from the American people throughout the organization’s history and their appreciation for the role that charity and volunteerism plays in Jewish society.”
