Aliya Dance to Greet New Torah

Members and supporters of Aliya in Crown Heights joined a lively procession to greet a new Torah and inaugurated the renovated shul.

The Aliya Institute, a shul and learning center in Crown Heights, welcomed a new Sefer Torah in a joyous ceremony that also celebrated a Chanukas Habayis on Thursday.

Having recently undergone renovations to its sanctuary and a rooftop deck, the event brought together regulars and supporters of Aliya's outreach work with community youth.

The writing of the scroll was commenced on Lag BaOmer at the home of R' Mottel Feiglin in Melbourne, Australia, and dedicated in memory of Shmuel ben Moishe Zalmen Feiglin and Devora bas Yisroel Eliyahu, of blessed memory.

Last week, the final letters were written in the Torah at the home of Rabbi Moishe Feiglin, Director of Aliya, accompanied by family members of "the Aliya family."

"This Torah will embrace and be embraced by so many young people in our community that wouldn't necessarily be getting an Aliya if not for Aliya," said Rabbi Feiglin.

It was taken with a lively procession through the streets of Crown Heights to Aliya on East New York Avenue, and passing by the Rebbe's house on President Street. Playing music aboard a truck were Menachem Malka, Sholom Solomon and Eitan Corenblum.

Upon arriving at Aliya after an hour-long procession, they were greeted by the other Sifrei Torah and delicious bbq smorgasbord prepped by twin brothers, Boruch and Meir Hahn. Sholom Kaye played niggunim during Hakafos.

"We welcome you to Aliya to see the new Torah and experience the incredible warmth and joy that the Torah brought to Aliya which will never leave!" Rabbi Feiglin said.

Special thanks was given to the NYPD 71st Precinct and Shomrim for their assistance.
