Registration is underway for the annual Simxa Shabbaton, which will take place over the Thanksgiving weekend at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Valencia, CA.
Rooms are filling up, and the Shabbaton is expected to be at its full capacity as the West Coast Jewish communities gather for a four-day long infusion of Torah and spirituality.
Jews of many backgrounds including Russian, Israeli, American, Persian and Bukhari will spend a Shabbos together, truly united. As usual, there will be parallel lectures in Russian and English, with something for everyone, young and old, immigrant or American-born.
In addition to popular speakers who had won the hearts of local Jews in the past, the Shabbaton will feature several lecturers of world renown who will be addressing the Simxa audience for the first time.
Speakers will include Rabbi Aryeh /Katzinv of Flatbush, Rabbi Eli Kogan of Staten Island, Rabbi Benzion Laskin of Brooklyn, Rabbi Reuven Wolf of Los Angeles, CA, and Rabbi Yechezkel and Mrs. Ora Rapoport of Shoreline, WA.
Mr. David Yerushalmi, Esq. and Mrs. Miriam Yerushalmi of Brooklyn, NY will be joining Simxa as English lecturers. Mr. Yerushalmi brings his experience as a lawyer and his expertise in national security, while Mrs. Yerushalmi, a psychologist and a prolific author, will contribute her unique perspective on spirituality.
As always, the Shabbaton offers a fun-filled children’s program and baby-sitting, gourmet meals and luxury accommodations, hikes and nearby attractions, and live music, including the popular poetess and performer Katya Kapelnikova, who will perform for women.
New this year is the Jewish Unity Fair which will take place on Sunday, the last day of the event. The goal of the fair is to express solidarity with the Pittsburgh Jewish community and to make a local contribution towards uniting the Jewish world.
Local Jewish organizations will participate in the fair, including Limmud-FSU, Camp Gesher, RUJU, Chabad of Mount Olympus, S. Monica Jewish Community, MOHO RS, MASA, and Hillel CSUN. Some of the Israeli organizations sponsoring the event are Ofek Israeli, Keren Hayesod, The Jewish Agency for Israel, the World Zionist Organization, and the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration.
The Shabbaton organizers, Moshe and Esther Davidoff, are hard at work, finalizing all the last-minute details. They expect the 18th Shabbaton to live up to its number, symbolizing life.
