A man has died after being hit by a New York City sanitation truck in Brooklyn's Crown Heights, law enforcement sources tell NBC 4.

The pedestrian was struck on the corner of Eastern Parkway and Brooklyn Avenue around 7 a.m. Thursday, sources said. One person claimed that truck was driving against traffic.

Emergency responders were unable to save the man's life and pronounced him dead on arrival, according to police.

The driver remained at the scene and the investigation remains ongoing, said police.

The accident near the Parking Lot of the Oholei Torah boys school leaving all 6 buses stranded and unable to exit to pick up students for the school day.

The school said that buses 1, 3, 4, 6, 9, 10 are canceled and "parents of these buses must bring their children to school this morning." Buses 2, 5 7, 8 will be running on regular schedule this morning with the students being dropped off at school.

The NYPD closed off Brooklyn Avenue to investigate the fatal accident and as of now, no cars are allowed onto the school's block of Eastern Parkway.

For students of Oholei Torah's East Flatbush school, they will be running 4 Avenue buses starting at 9 o'clock on Schenectady, Albany, Brooklyn and Nostrand Avenues, these buses will stop at every corner from Eastern Parkway until Winthrop.

doesn't make sense
truck is not allowed to move until investigation is over, if he was going against traffic pictures would have showed

Truck is not allowed to drive against traffic.
Truck is not allowed to move truck after striking someone until after investigation.
Truck driver may have broken both of those rules.

They should check the surveillance cameras of the houses (and OT parking lot?) near the scene.

Definitely shocking if G-d forbid people are smiling about a tragedy! I actually find it hard to believe that anyone would have been smiling about that...

But assuming that the expressions in that photo were even a response to something else, in all cases - why in heaven's name would collive include this irrelevant picture under such sad circumstances and when it clearly looks so cruel?

There's a reason for this recklessness
The first time this happened a few years ago, the truck was turning into carroll street and the pedestrian had the right of way. I don't believe any action was taken against the sanitation driver. When no action is taken, everything remains the same.

To number 6, 7
Yes the driver violated both those rules.... Detectives were here for many hours, don't worry, they know how to do proper investigation and look for cameras etc

Troll in comment #3
A problem in social media is trolls and their purpose is mean spirited. Every comment section has those and they will always find a way to insult anyone for their power mind games.

I think they guys are smiling because the camera guy had some left over challah from shabbos on his beard. Just speculating. Perhaps they were making fun of trump. Maybe even they cracked a joke. Or who knows maybe they were in a good mod cuz its Thursday....

#3 - smiling
i was also standing out there and we did not know at that time that someone was killed and were relieved thinking that nobody was hurt. it was later that someone in yeshiva told me someone unfortunately got killed and when we heard there were no smiles.

please think before you criticise.

i doubt anyone was smiling because of incident
May the family have strength and comfort
And may we have no more such incidents
Also a good time to remind everyone young and old of road safety

Shame that same investigation and prosecution didn't happen last time. Shame because the guy had no family then to speak to. Shame because he was a Jew and no one cared enough... Now it happened again and they could have prevented it by taking action last time.

It is always a tragedy when a human being is killed.
