The skyline of the historic Jewish cemetery in the holy city of Tzfas was lit up on Monday night by large flames forcing way the many visitors to the kever of the Arizal on the day of his yartzeit.
The annual pilgrimage to the resting place of famous Kabbalist, Rabbi Yitzchak Luria (1534-1572), universally known as the Arizal, was brought to a full stop as a fire spread about the gravesites.
In a video clip sent to COLlilve.com, official and volunteer emergency personnel were seen evacuating the public from the area. As of now, no injuries were reported.
People from around Israel travel annually to Tzfas to mark the yartzeit with reciting Tehillim, giving charity and lighting a candle in his memory. Many mention the names of loved ones and friends who need a blessing.
Agudas Chabad in Tzfas, headed by Rabbi Chaim Kaplan, has built a large Hachnosas Orchim tent to accommodate the many visitors. The air-conditioned facility allows people to eat, drink, rest up and joined a line-up of Chassidus classes.

Israel says that it was a candle lit in a unauthorized place.
Did they find out what the cause of the fire was pls share if u know ty
I was at the ohel erev gimmel tammuz last year and the heat melted the yarzeit candles and the structure holding the candles went up in flames. I suspect something similar might have happened here.
Some Tzfat kids weren’t careful with their bonfires. It’s been happening all summer long here in Tzfat… nothing out of the ordinary unfortunately…
In 1976 the Rebbe asked the Yeshiva’s (at least Toras Emes – Jerusalem) to visit the Ari zal kever on 5 Av. It was a one time request (from what I know).
It is very windy there & candles blow out easily. My best guess is like #4 said, coupled with the fact that there were probably hundreds lit at the same time. Did it catch on the tree? I highly doubt it was anything other than a bad accident.
You don’t know it yet, but Hashem and all of Shumayim already do. Better to have fires by the kevorim of tzadikim then in the lands of the enemies, because now, the enemies of Israel are reevaluating their long-term relationships with Hashem and the planet Earth and their own future generations. Boruch Hashem that the signs of Divine Intervention are readily observable once again!
What does it mean ?
What lesson can we learn from the fire?
There’s also a possibility that the fire happened because of how dry the earth is. So let’s not just to conclusions here
Probably people going against the rules and lighting a memorial candle outside of the designated area (this is not the first time such a thing happened…)
Generally there aren’t terrorist in Tzfat. Isolated attacks over a span of decades but I’d say no there aren’t terrorists in this specific area. Lived here for years BH
