On a sunny, frigid morning in January, a small group of people gathered in a Minnesota cemetery. Windchills plunging past 25 below zero did not deter them, for their’s was a time-honored and sacred task.
They gathered for the traditional Hakomas Hamatzeiva – the unveiling of the tombstone of Rebbetzin Mindelle Feller, who served faithfully as the Shlucha of the Rebbe to the state of Minnesota for over 56 years.
Many of her life’s accomplishments are etched into the red granite stone; the founding of Gan Yisroel Day Camp, Beis Chana Women’s International, Lubavitch Cheder Day School, and N’shei Chabad.
Also mentioned is her tireless devotion to the mitzvah of Taharas Hamishpacha, family purity, a fundamental tenet of the Jewish faith.
The inscription was read, chapters of Tehillim – Psalms recited, Kaddish was recited by her sons, and the assembled returned to the warmth of their homes, uplifted by the memory of a wonderful woman.
Her husband Rabbi Moshe Feller, Head Shliach of Minnesota, family and community members are present at the unveiling of the headstone.
Among the visitors who came to the Shiva house were Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, Mazkir of the Rebbe and Chairman of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch, Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, Vice Chairman of Merkos L’nyonei Chinuch and fellow Shluchim.
I greatly appreciated Mrs. Feller teaching me Alef Beis in 1972 before my Bar Mitzvah. May her whole family be comforted among the mourners of Tzion and Yerushalayim.
Mindy was an example to her students at Bais Chana of a confident secure woman during an era of feminine lost identify.
She was concerned with her students and taught them the reverance of a chassidishe woman’s connection to the Rebbe.
She was an amazing shlucha!
alongside her amazing husband (he should be well)
They truly gave the Rebbe much much nachus!
She will be missed… we pray that any second
