Dozens of OYYL students, parents, educators, and friends gathered to light the Menorah in the front yard of the Yeshiva on the corner of Eastern Parkway and Albany.
The Menorah lighting began with a Chanukah celebration, with student performances and interactive workstations. Families enjoyed making their own Latkes from scratch, decorating doughnuts, making their own leather Chanukah Gelt pouch, Dreidels, and even oil lava lamps.
All the children participated in a Chanukah Grand Raffle, winning Chanukah prizes and books.
All activities were highly engaging and families spent great quality time together.
“Chanuka workshops were a very exciting experience for me,”says Meital Khavis, an OYYL teacher. “Setting up workstations and conducting an experiment of the oil Lava Lamp were both fun and enjoying! We all had a very positive and educational experience.”
“We are extremely blessed with our dedicated members of our school community where parents and educators work together in building the greater future for our children,” says Mila Schneiderman, the school’s Founder and Director. “At this event, we saw the great enthusiasm of our parents and teachers to take part in organizing and carrying out the activities. This is a brotherhood we call a ‘school community,’ where everyone contributes and benefits, and we are very blessed to have this every day in our school.”

lots of fun for all, the kids made a presentation and lots of activities. feels like a community
Yes, equality…
What makes this school to stand out is the equality they have in their school community. From observing them grow from their first year I see how every child is treated equally to the other regardless to their yichus or place in the community. Families feel this and feel extremely comfortable, specially during the events.
The doughnuts were out of this world!
Best doughnuts ever
As is normal for oyyl, this was an extremely well planned and structured event. The kids had fun learning that oil and water don’t mix. They made little change purses. They got to hammer in nails to make the pictures. That was only a small portion of the events. Kol ha kvod
They always have those fun parties. My family enjoys it very much !
