Ten years ago, the Collel Chabad charity opened the “Collel Market” in the industrial zone of the holy city of Tzfas, to reduce food prices and subsidize grocery items for the financially underprivileged.
Last year, New York property owner and philanthropist Yossi Popack and his wife Batsheva made a major financial contribution towards the creation of the supermarket.
To assist residents of Tzfas and the surrounding region, Popack purchased a new facility covering an area of several hundred square meters to expand the supermarket’s services in a substantial manner.
After a period of renovations and re-equipping, the new and more spacious “Beis Popack” store opened in Tzfas, in time to provide local families with food packages and other basic food items at very low prices for Pesach.
To officially inagurate it, Yossi Popack flew in before Pesach together with his children Tzvi Hirsch Popack and Chana Tova Popack, R’ Mendel Levin, and other friends.
Joining them were Tzfas Chief Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, Chabad community’s Rabbi Mordechai Bistritzky, Collel Chabad Tzfat director Rabbi Yosef Chitrik and administrator Rabbi Yoram Mauda and the market’s director Rabbi Nachum Pinson.
During his tour of the city, Popack and his entourage also visited the “Bayit V’Lev” afterschool child care facility, and they were most impressed by the wide-ranging activities for local children and the warm, pleasant, and heartfelt atmosphere that reigned on the premises.
“We’d love to visit again,” they said before leaving.

The shluchim that are under other shluchim really need the most assistance. Everyone thinks that they have enough because they do their shlichas with a smile. But you cannot pay the meat bill with your smile. Thank You Yossi and Bat Sheva for your involvement. It’s nice to see that you have Hakoras Hatov for the Brocha that the Rebbe Blessed you… Read more »
He is a true philanthropist. HaShem should give him many years of health and prosperity.
A most generous and kindhearted family
There are very few of our gevirim that we hear of them helping the communities. If we don’t hear of their nedivus Lev the probability is that their helping is not sufficient.
Chazak Chazak and let us hear more of the same and even more.
