For the last several years, grades 7-9 of Beis Chana in Tzfas run a Tanya memorizing program where participants are entered in a drawing, and 5 lucky winners receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Haditch for Chof Daled Teves.
Along with these students, a staff member is also selected by a drawing to accompany these winners on their special and holy trip.
Last year, Mrs. Rivital Liviyon, a science teacher in the school, was the staff raffle winner. Married for 13 years but not yet a mother, Mrs. Liviyon was very excited for the opportunity to daven by the Alter Rebbe’s holy gravesite on the day of his yartzeit.
Shortly after the group’s return to Israel, one of the student winners approached Mrs. Liviyon with an emotional disclosure. She had dreamt the night before that her teacher had a baby boy and that the students were dancing in celebration of the birth.
On the eve of Yud Tes Kislev this year, Mrs. Liviyon merited to give birth to a healthy baby boy. Hundreds of students danced as they shared in her simcha. No surprise – the baby was named Schneur Zalman.
Students expressed great anticipation as this year’s raffle drew near and lines of Tanya resounded through the corridors of Beis Chana.
Among this year’s 5 student winners is Chani Weber, a Naale student whose family lives on shlichus in Pennsylvania. Two other Naale students’ parents decided to chip in and send their daughters to Haditch together with the group in recognition of their daughters’ efforts in memorizing Tanya. Beis Chana wishes their students and staff escort a successful trip to Haditch and that their davening be answered in a revealed and positive manner!
In other recent news, the ‘Council for a Beautiful Israel’ in coordination with the Israeli government awarded Beis Chana four stars in a nation-wide beautiful campus competition held among educational institutions.
Indeed Beis Chana has a large grassy yard lined with roses and flower beds. Evergreen, walnut, pomegranate and other trees dot the lawn. The classroom, dormitory and dining room buildings are well kept and aesthetically designed. Certainly having the Kinneret and Galilee mountainside as a breathtaking backdrop doesn’t hurt, either…
And… the Beis Chana-Naale group had a phenomenal Chanukah break with four days of exclusive programming including daily menorah lightings by local families, mivtzoyim, dancing, arts and crafts, games and – of course – frying up latkes and sufganiot.
Highlights of these days included biking around the Hula Valley Nature Preserve in Emek Izrael, a cable car ride and spelunking around Rosh HaNikra, a tour of the Strauss Dairy Factory (think taste-testing their chocolates and puddings!), and a powerful visit to the ‘Dialogue in the Dark’ museum in Cholon to learn what life is like for the vision impaired. Chanukah proved to be a very illuminating experience for the Beis Chana-Naale students who explored the Holy Land amidst nature and educational experiences, and shared as a close Chassidishe ‘family’.
