Mrs. Rashi Minkowitz touched the souls of thousands during her lifetime and her legacy continues to do so.
Thousands of people, many who never even met Rashi personally have undertaken hachlatos in her memory. Many of the hachlatos are in the realm of giving more loving attention to one’s children and the mitzvah of hadlakas neiros. Most fittingly, many women have decided to follow in Rashi’s footsteps and have a Torah and Tea event at which Rashi would serve tea and often a homemade goody as well as a healthy dose of practical Torah! 150 cities around the world have already initiated their own Torah and Tea and Crown Heights is not to be left behind.
As Rashi’s own birthplace and first community, it is most fitting that a communal Torah and Tea is going to be held weekly in Crown Heights, and iLearn and Junior N’shei have teamed up to do just that.
Beginning 22 Adar 2, March 24, a weekly shiur on Monday mornings will be held at Machon Chana, 556 Crown at the corner of Albany.
The guest speaker for the opening event is Chaya Abelsky, Rashi’s sister-in-law. The Torah and Tea will be replete with Rashi-style details such as authentic tea cups, plenty of hot water, and a variety of tea flavors. Homemade pastries will be served as well and care will be taken to ensure that the presentation is just as Rashi would have liked it. Babies are welcome and a generous toy corner will be provided to make sure that the event is open to everyone. Different speakers each week will discuss the parsha of the week, Yomim Tovim or other general Torah topics. Torah and Tea is sure to be a great way to boost your week with spirituality and to honor Rashi’s memory.
A beautiful lounge and cafe is being built on the first floor in the building and iyh will be a beautiful venue for the project. Renovations are underway and hopefully ready for use after Pesach.
Mark your calendars! Monday mornings 9:30-10:30. Please make an effort to come attend this gathering that will honor a shlucha, mother and mentor whose presence will be sorely missed. May the spiritual warmth of the Torah, inspiration and good hachlatos as well as the physical warmth of tea and friendships formed be an aliyah for Rashi’s neshama.
If you would like to have the opportunity to sponsor a Torah and Tea class, please contact Junior N’shei or iLearn at [email protected] or [email protected]

Love the line….”Many of the hachlatos are in the realm of giving more loving attention to one’s children”….. very very important!!! First and foremost, our children need our attention!! Beautiful project!
try to reach out to someone you aren’t close with, find someone who is shy or new here, or whatever, and the Ahavas Yisroel will be that Rashi-style mitzva.
