Bais Chana High School for Girls in Orange, CT recently held its second annual mother/daughter evening in honor of Chof Beis Shvat; and what an incredible, inspirational evening it was.
Within a beautiful setting, the evening included an excellent speaker, a delicious dinner, a most enjoyable mother/daughter activity, and was highlighted by the students’ presentations of their ROOTS projects.
The decor, coordinated by BCA faculty member, Mrs. Basya Deitsch, set the tone for this wonderful evening. As guests entered, they were met with a beautiful garden, a haven of plants and greenery. Striking paper flower centerpieces, made by the students, graced the dining tables and were also hung from the ceiling, creating a colorful, joyous mood. The atmosphere was elegant, warm and inviting in typical Bais Chana fashion. Tables were set with china and glassware which added to the beauty of the surroundings.
Guest speaker, Mrs. Yocheved Adelman, shlucha to Amherst, Massachusetts, described her meeting with the Rebbe and Rebbetzin when she was privileged to bring Mishloach Manos on behalf of Machon Chana, to the home of the Rebbe.
She also spoke of the importance of conducting ourselves in a “penimiusdike” manner without false airs, just as the Rebbetzin was a true example of greatness, dignity, humility and sincerity.
Claydate from Woodbridge provided the mother/daughter activity for the evening as mothers and daughters chose a mivtza and glass-fusion plaques were created. The activity brought a sense of togetherness as mothers and daughters worked as a team on their creations.
Perhaps the most inspirational and moving part of the evening was watching the creative ROOTS presentations by the students. This included videos, poems, scrap books, visual displays and story tapes.
From yud shvat to yud tes kislev, working with staff member Mrs. Devora Leah Posner, 9th grade students researched one of the Rebbeim. Under the guidance of teacher Rabbi Levi Schechtman, 10th grade students researched different aspects of the Rebbe’s life. Both classes were responsible for a written report, poster and creative project.
“The ROOTS project was an opportunity for our girls to learn about and gain an appreciation for the Rebbeim and our roots, in a very meaningful way,” said Mrs. Bluma Hecht, Bais Chana principal. “Being able to present them to the mothers at such a special gathering left everyone feeling inspired and uplifted.”
Bais Chana Academy High School for Girls is committed to excellence in education and the development of self-assured young women who exemplify middos tovos and strength of character. BCA instills yiras shamayim, a love of Torah and Mitzvos and a practical understanding and appreciation for what limud hachasidus and darchei hachasidus add to everyday life.
Through a rigorous academic program of both limudei kodesh and secular studies, as well as goal-oriented extra-curricular programs, BCA gives its students the confidence to discover and cultivate their own unique talents and to note their accomplishments with pride. The school’s focus is to foster dignified young women who will be able to assess their actions, and who will develop the sensitivity to make decisions which positively impact their growth and development in school and beyond.
Bais Chana is accepting applications for 9th, 10th and 11th graders for the 5775 school year. For more information, please call Mrs. Bluma Hecht at 203-795-5261.
