Mrs. Dinah Abrahamson, a Crown Heights resident who was active in political circles, passed away early Tuesday, 14 Teves 5774.
She was 59 and her passing was sudden.
Abrahamson’s unwavering commitment to Yiddishkeit coupled with her political astuteness made her an inspiration to all who knew her.
Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Mrs. Abrahamson’s maternal grandparents were German Jewish refugees who settled in the State and raised their family there.
From an early age, Abrahamson dedicated her life to serving others and made it a priority to make a Kiddush Hashem everywhere she went, family friends said.
A dedicated member of the Republican party, she was a Nebraska State Central Committee Member and had close ties to Congressman Lee Terry and former Congressman Hal Daub. She also met President George W. Bush.
Wanting to provide her children with a frum education, Abrahamson moved to the Crown Heights neighborhood in Brooklyn in 2007, where she quickly became known for her determination and drive.
A tireless advocate for frum education, she was involved with the Yeshiva Darchei Menachem boys school and the Jewish Technical Vocational School (JTVS), taking students on VIP trips to Washington, DC and arranging extra-curricular activities for them.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Seigel, her son Yosef Abrahamson, her sister, granddaughter, nieces and nephews and numerous friends and acquaintances whose lives were touched by her.

RIP lovely sparrow. You are greatly missed.
I am black and grew up in Crown Heights and lived there when the riots happened many years ago. I worked for mostly Jewish people over the past two decades and was exposed to many Jewish traditions because of my jobs. Nothing however explained to me what Shabbos was as clearly as Mrs Abrahamson did when I saw her on Oprah. While I am not Jewish, I was touched to the core of my soul to hear her describe the sacred time she could not wait to light her candles each week and just be with God. The level of… Read more »
I’m so sorry, Sarah, I just today learned of her passing. How blessed I was to work with Dinah in Minot and to have shared time together on our days off. Her dedication to her faith and to her work are an inspiration to me.
I had the pleasure of working with Dinah in Minot with FEMA last year. She was impassioned about the mission, went the distance on behalf of FEMA applicants, and always had a ready smile to lighten up the office when work got too intense. She will be missed by her colleagues and the many FEMA applicants she helped.
