Yeshivas Toras Emes in Jerusalem, a historic institution and one of the 5 largest Chabad Yeshivos in Israel, intends to appoint Rabbi Avrohom Lapidus as its Rosh Yeshiva, sources told COLlive.
The unexpected move will have the former Rosh Yeshiva of Chabad in Buenos Aires replace the long-time and elderly Toras Emes Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Binyomin Zev Segal.
Rabbi Lapidus, who recently moved to Israel, will begin his new post after the Pesach bein hazmanim break, the source said.
Young and mild-mannered, Lapidus excelled in his studies in Beis Hamedrash Oholei Torah (zal) in Brooklyn, the Chabad Yeshiva in Kiryat Gat and the Central Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim in Kfar Chabad, where he served as a Talmid Shliach.
He married the daughter of Rabbi Dovid Meir Drukman, the outspoken rabbi of the northern Israeli city of Kiryat Motzkin, after which he learned in the Kfar Chabad Kollel, headed by Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Labkowsky.
For the last 15 years, Lapidus was at the helm of the Argentinian Yeshiva, helping it gain a reputation for attracting serious-minded bochurim from around the world. “He took a personal interest and care in the bochurim,” an alumnus noted.
As a regular invitee of the Global Yarchei Kallah, an annual forum for leading Chabad rabbis and scholars, he has impressed his former teachers and current peers with his clear thinking and broad knowledge.
In his new role, he follows in the footsteps of some of the Chabad greats of past generations, among them Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Havlin, Rabbi Moshe Aryeh Leib Shapira, Rabbi Shmuel Elazar Halperin, all of blessed memory.
Toras Emes, the first chassidic Yeshiva in the land of Israel, celebrated this past summer 100 years since its founding by the Rebbe Rashab, the 5th Lubavitcher Rebbe, first in Chevron and later in Jerusalem.
Located on Yirmiyahu Street, the Yeshiva is part of the Toras Emes institutions which also include a Mesivta, cheder, preschools and a Chabad shul. It is directed by Rabbi Shea Yuzevitch.
Rabbi Lapidus will serve alongside Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Ofen, Rabbi Yosef Tzvi Segal, Rabbi Chaim Shalom Deitch, Rabbi Yosef Tzvi Tzirkus, Rabbi Shmuel Presman, Rabbi Yechiel Yosef Lasker and others.
R’ Avrohom is a true example of a smart and caring Rosh Yeshiva.

I was a shliach in Yeshiva in Argentina in 2001 and Reb Avrum taught me the “raichkeit” of staying on the daf and sticking to pshat. I learned how to learn Gemara Rashi tosfos as is supposed to be learned, from Reb Avrum. And of course I never learned maharam shif from any magid shiur like Reb Avrum taught. I ate drank and slept maharam shif that year and i enjoyed every minute there. Of course Chassidus with Reb Asher was a whole other part of my Argentenian life. But he’s not the point of this article so we’ll leave… Read more »

I wish him much success in his new post!
rabbi yosef tzvi segel does not teach in toras emes, he teaches in tzemach tzedek. his son rabbi itche meir segel teaches in toras emes.
is headed by Rabbi Sholom Ber Labkowski not Yosef Yitzchak.
Rabbi YY is a Shliach in Marseille, France

when i wasin yeshiva in argentina i remember reb avrohom tacking personall intrest in the bochrim, especialy if they wore sick, or having a hard time.
reb avrohom and his brother sholy wore my fsvorite teachers.
toras emes is lucky to have him
Interesting
His brother, rabbi Sholem Lapidus, became a maggid shiur in rgentina in 15 Menachem Av 5757 – exactly at the 100th birthday of Tomchei Tmimim. Now, rabbi Avrohom Lapidus became a rish yeshiva at toras emes in the 100th yaer of its foundation
Go rabbi Lapidus (both)
If Torat Emet board allow him to make decisions and not only give shiurim, the yeshiva will be one of the bests yeshivas
Go raabi Lapidus
