The first group of Lubavitcher Rabbonim enrolled in a new Dayonus program, have received Yoden Yoden in Jerusalem last week.
The Rabbonim are Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Marlow – the Rov of Anash in North Miami, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Cohen – Shliach to Sacramento and author of Margolis Menachem on Rambam and Raived, and Rabbi Sholom Dov Ber Schuchat -Dayan on the Beis Din of Agudas HoRabonim (who was not able to be in Israel at the time ).
They are the first graduates of the program which was established by Rabbi Yehoram Ulman, respected Rov and Dayan on the Sydney Beth Din. The program includes studying large sections of Even HoEzer such as Yuchsin, Gittin and Kiddushin as well as Geirus, Mikvoes and many sections of Choshen Mishpot. In the program, weekly shiurim are given via Skype by Rabbi Ulman and additional shiurim by Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Feigelstock, Rov and Raived of Anash in Buenos Aires. The shiurim are geared to give as much practical application of the material as possible.
The program has the zchus to be under the patronage of HoRav Zalman Nechemia Goldberg Shlita, one of the leading Halachic authorities of our time and the chief editor of the renowned Encyclopaedia Talmudis. Rav Goldberg is involved in setting the curriculum of the program as well as examining the candidates, and is the main signatory on the smicha together with Rabbis Ulman and Feigelstock.
The ordination of the talmidim took place in the home of Rabbi Goldberg Shlit’a where Divrei Torah and Halocho were discussed for many hours leading to the actual signing. Also present was Rabbi Moshe D Gutnick, a fellow Dayan of the Sydney Beth Din with Rabbi Ulman.
Rabbis Gutnick and Ulman regularly visit Eretz Yisroel on behalf of the Sydney Beth Din to meet with Chief Rabbi, the Ovois and Hanholas Botei Din and Gedolei Yisroel to discuss matters pertinent to the Sydney Beth Din and its jurisdiction over much of Australia and Asia. The Sydney Beth Din assists community rabbis, shluchim and communities in general within the region in all matters pertaining to Beth Din such as kashrus, conversion and divorce and ensures that these are all done in a manner recognised and accepted by the Rabbanut.
Photos of meetings and discussions are of Harav Zalman Nechemia Goldberg, Harav Ezra Basri a renowned Dayan, Posek and Author, Harav Tziyon Boaron senior judge on the Beis Din Hagodol in Jerusalem, Harav Tzva Ben-Yaakov Av Beis Din Tel Aviv, Harav Shlomo Dichovski Menahel of Hanholas Botei Din and his deputy Harav Yitzchak Peretz, Harav Menachem Burstein head of Machon Puah institute and Harav Asher Erentrau Menahel of the Agunos section of Botei Din.
So happy for you!
Best wishes, fan from Aventura
you are the best in the world
avreml friend
This is a nice story, but one needs to hear from their communities, and THEN you will be impressed.
People in FL don’t like Rabbi Marlow, they ADORE him.
His humility shows even in the photos. Maybe there is some hope, after all.
Mazel Tov Gevaldt -Such holiness Rabbi Mendi!
A Shliach in the capital of California also has time to learn dayanus??!!
Wow!!! That is awesome!
Kol hakavoid!!!
Great combination. Go only from trength to strength and blessings!-Dovid Benveniste Halevy,Tsfat.
In addition to these shluchim learning dayanus they should learn some basic counseling and psychology courses to deal with their communities which are falling apart. A lot of the problems are because these so called dayans don’t understand basic social work issues.
Mazel Tov Mazel Tov Yossi You are the best. And you went to the best Yehoram Ulman Also a class mate of mine in Kefar Chabad. Both of you should keep up the good work.
Wishing you both Hatzlocho in every thing you do.
Your good friend from Toronto
future of lubavitch and its shluchim!
So nice to see people in their ‘middle age’, not young bochurim, still striving to reach a higher goal, ppl that are busy with their place in life, with their shlichus, and still learning, reaching for a higher step in their work…bhatzlocha!
Shalom Yaackov,
Right on, it’s about time some one addresses this ,
Many rabonim live below poverty level as they are not employed as a poisek, they need support as any other job.
If they are good enough to all them then they must be worth the value.
Yesher koiach, I second what say about rav Ulman , I think that this is a bigger issue that need s to be addressed Many take “advantage” for legal, emotional, marital , spiritual advise from rabonim and spend hours on the phone and never show any appreciation and financial support. How is a Rav suppose to live and pay the bills when they are called 24/7 … You are right , when you call a lawtyer, a CPA, a consultant , they bill you by the call, why not pay a Rav a Dayan ? Are they less needy the… Read more »
It is beautiful to see that finally Lubavitch is producing new Dayanim. These three are the creme de la creme: Rabbi Mendy Cohen of Sacramento, California, is a renowned Talmid Chochom with an extensive knowledge in Torah and Halacha. Rabbi Yossi Marlow of North Miami Beach, Florida, is the Rov of the Chabad community, and one of the most knowledgeable Rabbonim in the Lubavitch World. Rabbi Sholom Shuchat is the youngest of the bunch, who has managed to become a Dayan on one of the most prestigious Batei Din in America, in Agudas Harabonim (which was led among others by… Read more »
One of Lubavitch most kept secret, A Rav par exelacne , a mentch to the highst degree He is world renown poisek who is realistic and down to earth Anash from all over the world call upon him. In my recent trip to Sydney I have noticed how He now spends more time with calls from across the Oceans that he has no time to fundraise I’m wondering If anyone considers paying for his time when you call a lawyer or accountant you pay, why not Pay a poisek? A Rav ?. Rabbi Ulman is מוסר נפש, to never ignore… Read more »
