The community of Postville joined for their first Public Menorah lighting on Wednesday, December 21.
The crowd was addressed by Postville Mayor Leigh Rekow and the Menorah was lit by Dr. Mordechai Lederman.
Participants enjoyed holiday music and refreshments. Among them was Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Sholom Ber Gurkow.
Bochurim Menachem Shanowitz, Chaim Ginsberg, Menachem Orenstein and Chaim Grossbaum, who are learning in the Postville Mesivta, organized the event, held at Moore’s IGA lot.
“We thank Mayor Leigh Rekow and IGA for their help with the event,” says Chaim Ginsburg, one of the organizers. “We hope that this event opens a new phase in inter-community relations for the city of Postville.”
“I am very proud that the staff and students of the Jewish Boys High School decided to arrange this public community-wide event,” said Aaron Goldsmith, former Postville city council member. “By doing this we are uniting with all other communities who are celebrating this worldwide.”
