Empowerment for women, a “retreat environment” and beautiful surroundings were the backdrop for a “Mind In Control” seminar which was brought to Chabad of the Five Towns by Dr. Gill Heart this past Sunday. Beautifully decorated tables, and delicious food greeted the overflow crowd.
Dr. Heart, a former undercover special forces operative shared his insights and training expertise in bio-mechanical engineering, his experience in the Elite Special Forces of the IDF and his clinical and scientific knowledge and Kabbalistic concepts to teach more than 200 women how to control their emotional responses to stress triggers.
“Dr. Heart demonstrated ways in which to regain control of our minds and taught us how to apply these techniques to everyday life’s stressful events,” commented a participant. “We learned how to cope with everyday challenges.”
Deep breathing, focusing, and re-thinking everyday triggers were just some of the strategies learned.
“I was in a unit that operates under extreme pressure, stress and risk,” explained Heart. “This is a unit that goes on recognizant missions beyond enemy lines, the same unit that carried out the Raid on Entebbe. These are highly trained professionals that have to operate calmly and perform their best, even when their lives are at risk.”
Heart said he and fellow soldiers were constantly battling fear and anxiety. Other times, they were cold, tired or hungry. They needed their mind to make it through those situations, to control their responses to the stressors.
Mind In Control trains the brain to think differently. “Stress is everywhere,” said Heart. “We face it at home and at work, with our spouses, children, parents and friends, our employer and employees, on the road and off of it, when we read the paper or listen to the radio. Some people think that being angry, anxious or stressed is part of life. Mind In Control teaches differently, it teaches you to live without it.
The interactive workshop, hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Ari and Chaya Cohen of Lawrence, was very well received. Free raffle prizes ranging from manicures to spa treatments to other stress relief gifts made for a wonderful ending to a fun, educational and enriching night out.
Chairwomen for the evening were Mrs. Chava Popack and Mrs. Rivky Robinson, with tremendous help from Mrs. Batsheva Medows. The evening was made possible through the generosity of an anonymous sponsor in honor of their children.

Everyone could benefit from this. They should have made a video of the talk to raise money for the Chabad of the Five Towns.
