A crowd of nearly one hundred women filled the Holiday Inn Columbia Ballroom in Downtown Vancouver last week. The talent and energy of Toronto singer Ariella Goldberg combined to make this annual Women’s Gala Dinner and Concert a tremendous success.
Spearheaded by Chabad of Downtown Vancouver, the Jan. 16 event is one of many highly successful events of the Jewish Women’s Circle, a unique program that brings together women of all backgrounds, to relax, have some fun, shmooze, learn some new creative skills, and most importantly, to celebrate that which makes Jewish women so special.
“The purpose of the Jewish women’s Circle is to spend evenings with the spotlight on us women. The events provide opportunities to rejuvenate both physically and spiritually, leaving us with renewed inspiration and enthusiasm to continue on as powerful Jewish women,” explained JWC director Malky Bitton as she welcomed the crowd. “Women play a unique role within the Jewish people. With our unique traits we set the foundation for a strong and pure Jewish home. We give birth to the next Jewish generation and ensure the education of our children.”
Following the elegant sit-down dinner, the show began. As a singer, songwriter and guitarist, Ariella entertained the crowd by weaving together a tapestry of melodies from around the world. She also performed Yiddish lullabies, traditional Jewish melodies, and contemporary compositions of her own, drawn from her experiences as a Jewish wife and mother. Her music was infused with meaning and humor, her program both entertaining and inspiring.
