A recent fundraiser in Brooklyn, New York has helped bring awareness about the enormous burden on families of Chabad-Lubavitch Shluchim who are raising a child with special needs.
Founded by a group of yungeleit in conjunction with Shluchim raising children with special needs, Yaldei Shluchei Harebbe, supports and assists these Shluchim so they can focus their energy on spreading the light of Torah and Yiddishkeit in their communities.
The second annual soupfest was graciously hosted at the home of Itzik and Ella Skoblo. Greeting the participants were the organizers Dovid Leib and Sheina Sara Shur.
“In the past year we were able to reach out to over 60 shluchim families from all over the world,” said Yaldei’s director, Rabbi Gershon Sabol.
“In addition to shluchim spread over the fifty states we have provided assistance and support to shluchim in England, France, South America, Israel, Russia and Germany.”
He went on to introduce the new addition to Yaldei’s staff Rabbi Sholly Weiser.
“For each family that we are able to assist, there is a growing list of families that still need our support. To serve them, we have recently hired a full-time administrator to help us develop new programs,” Sabol added.
“Over the coming months, we plan to roll out many new resources including ongoing service coordination, informational webinars for fathers and mothers and support groups via telephone for parents and siblings.”
Guest speaker Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, Chairman of the International Conference of Shluchim, spoke of the daily challenges that he witnesses while visiting Shluchim around the world.
“I remember Two years ago, a group of caring individuals came to me with the idea to start an organization to service Shluchim with these specific needs. Baruch Hashem, there is now a place to where Shluchim from all over the world can turn,” he said about Yaldei.
