what is the issue.
look at shimon warranker
he is principal of a inner city public school that was high crime.
not saying you should do that – that is unusual, doesn’t usually happen.
go where your passion is, no matter where 🙂 !

I’m not saying that its impossible to do well in buisness w/o training. What I am saying is, not everyone has the inborn talent and the skills to succeed in buisness. You can’t say uni is forbidden b/c you can always can into buisness. Some pple just arn’t cut out to be buisnessmen. So, without uni and higher education, what options do they have to have for decent parnosso?

If you are right that it is all theory, then please tell me how all the frum, chassidishe business people made it rich? And tell me how people with no English, let alone education made it rich after the war? And, by the way, open the Tzach Yellow pages, the Boro Park Yellow pages and peruse through all the businesses and services that are available. I defy you to find even a quarter of those run by people with college degrees. All the big names in real estate in Crown Heights, for a close-to-home example, how many of them needed… Read more »

Exactly how does someone with no buisness skills or experience or knowlage about how to run a buisness, start a buisness?

Its all nice a good to in theory. But practicly speaking most yungerlite who just got married and went through the ‘system’ have no clue even what buisness to get into and how to get into buisness.

Just because three of your college friends are unemployed and some of your friends who went to college are successful does not mean that this is the general case. People who go to college are more likely to become more successful than people who do not go to college. Also, with America’s economy, many people are having trouble getting jobs.

It’s a different time now and although the Jewish way of life should always be kept, some things need to be changed so that we can develop appropriately with the times.

Can someone show me where the Rebbe said he was against Limudei Chol? Not just to one individual but to Lubavitchers as a whole.

Remember the rebbe himself was educated?

It’s shocking how self professed lubavitcher chassidim blatantly go against their Rebbe’s stance. The Rebbe is much smarter than you.

What about the fact that the Rebbe is against secular education? Aside from the environment, even if it is Touro etc., we are still learning secular studies….
Any ideas?

Been there... done that...

Parents – as a former college student (baal tshuva) I can tell you that a college where a child dorms is way bad.
The absolute antithesis of what a parent would want for their child.

i have three “college educated friends” who are UNEMPLOYED! & i have many former classmates who are very successful without college!! G-d decides who will make it & who wont! we must personally make sure that our “Keli” is sanctioned by our personal RAV/Mashpia… thus We will be blessed by the BOSS & CREATOR of the universe! succeess ultimately comes from above! we need only a PROPER “hishtadlus” effort! Proper = defined by the Rebbeh via Mashpia Mashpia, must be someone who is fit to be your Mashpia (in accordance with the guidelines late out in the Rebbe’s sichos re… Read more »

Vocational education is necessary
January 18, 2011 7:21 am

It used to be that young men and women went away for “the college experience” to enjoy life on campus and being independent from their families for the first time. Today, there are community colleges and vocational institutes that provide essential skills for people who need them in order to succeed in the job market. There is no “campus experience” at these schools, they are designed specifically for working people.

still I am left with the question of the bris performed by moshe’s wife please answer did she do it because moshe could not ? even though the commentaries speak of the snake taking hold and not allowing moshe or is that because of the promise made to yisro the midrash alludes to ?

No one cares..
January 18, 2011 2:20 am

Like everything else in Lubavitch, no one really cares.. Younger generation does what they want and the older crowd stands idly by.

We’re going to go to college anyway. If Yeshivas has a better system for college credits and spoke to buchrim about their options, we would be a lot better off.

End of the day, no one really cares. It’s easier to blame things on the younger crowd than actually do something about it.

You don't need college if . . .
January 18, 2011 1:43 am

You don’t need college if you go in business. In business there are no guarantees that you’ll become wealthy, BUT all of the big philanthropists are in business, and they either did not go to college, or, in the goyishe world, their college degree has almost always nothing to do with their business. If you can’t get a shlichus, get into business. How many people are in business and must be on section 8? Start your own business and no one cares about graduation, test scores, Shakespeare, grade 11 & 12 math etc. Get real. Get into business if you… Read more »

What about those of us who became frum after college? I have a BA and two Master’s Degrees…and we became frum THROUGH Chabad AT the campus…(I now live in CH but have had to search for work outside the community.)

Could someone please educate us????
January 18, 2011 12:31 am

Thanks Rabbi Jacobson for this class and all that you do for Crown Heights. But could we please hear from a rav/mashpia on this important topic that matters more to our lives then who is the third or or not?! As others have written, families are hurting and people are jobless. Not everyone is a real estate whiz that can make it without a degree. Not only that, even our mosdos in Crown Heights actually pay more to teachers who went through higher education. What message is that giving? that it pays to go to college. Could a Mashpia/rav please… Read more »

Wrong title
January 17, 2011 9:39 pm

Going to college today (after marriage, or under the appropriate circumstances like Touro) is nothing like what the title denotes.

People need attain skills to make a living. If one does not go on Shlichus (which is the only thing Yeshiva/Lubavitch offers as an occupation) college should be encouraged. Not everyone have a father with a big business they can join, nor should they take a dead beat job out fear of starvation.
