Name:
Mendel “the Sheichet” Markel
Age:
32
Marital status:
Married + 4 children.
Residence:
Pittsburgh, PA.
Contact:
www.musicbymoshe.com
Currently doing:
Manager of shipping and billing manager at JET, (Jewish Educational Toys), teacher at Chabad of Fox Chapel Hebrew School, vlogger at COLlive.com, writer at jewishmusicreport.com. Did I forget anything?
Musical roots:
I can’t remember that far back to when I started singing but I’m told from about a year old.
Musical inspiration:
My earliest inspiration was Nichoach, which played constantly in my parent’s home when I was growing up (the old vinyls). My singing in public though started as a bochur in Eretz Yisroel. This was due more than anything to the influence and friendship of chazzan Hershel Zucker. He was responsible for my realization that I have a musical gift and in my gaining the confidence to share it with others.
Music in your life:
Let’s just say that I find Sefirah and the 3 weeks physically painful.
Reality check:
My musical ambition is B”H alive and well.
Favorite musicians:
R’ Shmuel Betzalel Althaus, Zalman Levin, Andy Statman, Yair Kalev just to name a few.
Favorite songs
All depends on the day. Today my Chabad Nigunim favs have been the Dohkshitzer Nigun and the Nevler Asader Liseudosoh. Jewish music fave of the day is Anu by Yisroel Werdyger,
Plans post concert:
Same as before the contest. Continue writing songs and continue progress on several music projects that I’ve begun working on.
A Jewish Star:
A great way for new, unique and fresh artists to get out there. Glad to see lots of variety so far this year, hope to see many more submissions.

i like the song (100%) but i was hoping for a niggun, but anyways great song!
If you had a flute accompaniment in the background, you’d have the depth to put you over the top. Me thinks.
I loved this song the minute I 1st listened to it – somehow it clicked – truly beautiful! I simply cannot stop listening or humming this composition… pure gevaldig!
very nice i hop u win
He`s got a good sense of humor!
I like how he sings
That was amazing. I really enjoyed it, from the tune to part of davening that you took! Thank you!
i think he should have made a better ending then just flat lets say like going lower or higher

Thanks for all the positive comments as well as the constructive crticism. We will iy”h soon be continuing the Chavlog and I have also begun work on some recordings of Chabad Nigunim, which I hope to release in CD format as well as a couple with music vids (tell me that’s not a cool idea lol) – which will be shared to you of course via COLlive – your one stop shop for all things Chabad! I also wanted to reiterate an offer I made on ajewishstar.com and was taken up on already by many more people than I thought.… Read more »
quote: “dont expect an orchestra to start playing in the middle, that only happens when u sit on a bed without sheets”—hes talking about binyamin moshe’s audition.
LOL mendel, not only have u got the voice and feel but youve got the funny too

OMG, I am in shock!!
Its unbelievable!! (oh, thats it not a niggun i mean! 🙂
really “hartzig”!!
So far the best!
why not use your talent ti sing chassidishe lubavitch nigunum, very much lacking a good singer for it
Running, jumping, hopping, playing tag with friends
Whack that puck into the goal, hit a grand slam….
…to the Rebbe and the Rebbetzin his hiskashrus was so strong
their devotion to him could be seen all along…u know the rest 🙂
very nice song , nice voice
Go J.S.A.K.C.!!! 😀
I heard this song yesterday when it was uploaded (subscribe to ajewishstar on youtube for notifications whenvideos are uploaded) and found myself singing it all day at work today. Definitely my fave song of the day 😉
I feel proud to have been the inspiration behind the next Jewish Star
Hartzig and moving music. Keep it up in addition to the Chabad niggunim. We need real music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mendel, you are a worthy member of J.S.A.K.C.! This is a beautiful song!
It’s nice to see a Chossid singing without Shtick. No hip hop, no Rap, no wiggeling, just sing and we enjoy. May we see more Chassidishe people singing the way a Chossid should sing. Not the way Pop Culture is going! R’ Markell thank you for keeping to the Chassidishe standard!
really moving. well sung
good job!! i will definitely vote for you !!!! i hope you win!
Very nice
mendel! nice work, can’t wait to see you at the concert!

This is true talent,

This what we all look up to- someone who sings from the heart, and sings meaningful and Toichendik songs.
