Traffic police in Crown Heights had a great opportunity Tuesday to empty out their ticket books thanks to confusing signs on Kingston Avenue.
New parking restriction signs on street poles were hung along two main blocks of the neighborhood shopping road to allow for the large -scale construction project to make headway.
The temporary signs read “No Parking 7 am – 7 pm Monday – Friday.” But a second set of signs, hung on each parking meter read “No Parking Wednesday.”
Most residents and visitors who were parking on Tuesday saw only the meter sign, and were unaware of the new, temporary signs, and parked on the block assuming that it was allowed since it is not Wednesday.
Traffic cops who saw the confusing signs as an opportunity, stood nearby, rushing to give tickets to vehicles parked by unsuspecting drivers.
Residents have alerted COLlive.com about the confusion and we contacted the NYPD 71st Precinct in Brooklyn for answers.
Officer Lenny Wright said traffic cops were not under their jurisdiction, but he immediately sent an officer to clarify the issue with their peers.
Jacob Goldstein, Chairman of Community Board 9 which coordinates the construction, told COLlive.com Tuesday evening that he was not aware of any of this.
“I am currently out of town,” he said, “but either way the city had to inform us before they put up any signs – that’s part of our agreement with them and the contractors.”
Goldstein said he will be back in New York Wednesday and “will dig into it” – possibly even getting those tickets cancelled.
According to present signs there will be no parking on Kingston Avenue Wednesday, November 3, as well as no parking on the blocks between Empire and Crown from 7 am – 7 pm indefinitely.

Copmuter stations?
And it will happen again and again…
So what we elected a Vaad Hakohol so what that elected officials visited our community, we are endorsing them again, so why should they do anything for us if we give them our votes time after time even thought we get nothing from them.
No surprise.
thanks collive for making mention of this.
They were sitting in there cars, and waiting for people to park and leave there cars. and then went to ticket them.
