Negotiations on how to settle the puzzling outcome of the Crown Heights community elections will take place over a conference call on Monday.
Monsey Dayan Rabbi Avrohom Rosenberg, who presided over a special Beis Din to settle issues in the chassidic neighborhood, is currently leading discussions with fellow Rabbis on who will be included in election runoffs, how they will be conducted, whether or not there will be a recount, and how to deal with related issues in the near future.
At a meeting yesterday at the Vaad Hakohol – Community Council offices, candidates and other community activists presented options and ideas to resolve the dead end which the June 13 elections brought, with only one candidate – Zaki Tamir – getting 50 percent of the votes.
Currently the previous Vaad Hakohol remains in office, as the bylaws state that they function as usual until the newly elected Vaad is in effect.
Insiders told COLlive.com the earliest date the bais din will call the runoff elections for will be July 6, 2010.
The July date – less than ideal because it is when many families spend time in the catskills in upstate New York – will probably be chosen, as the process will be expedited so as not to interfere with the election for a third Rabbi to join the Crown Heights Beis Din.
With conflicting sides publishing misinformation on the subject, many Crown Heights residents are complaining that they are feeling left out of the process. Questions regarding any of the Vaad Hakohol’s programs should be directed to the director Eli Cohen, who continues in his position at this time.
Why not take the top 3, the ones who got the most votes they should be the new vaad and finished! End of story.
If your gonna tell me that the bylaws says something else then Hecht should also not have been able to run.
Even with a run off, I’m sure that Bronstein and Hackner will get it.
Hashem Always helps us!!
so lets bash the messenger! sheesh get a life people.
Rabbi Rosenberg is obviously working on it.
Can somebody tell me how does the old Vaad think try can keep their power? What are they trying to do? Get an edict from Bloomberg?
no one is impartial!!! but everyone should accept the decision handed down by the Beis Din and even if the decision is “against” the party that Eli Cohen has an allegiance to, i am sure GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY by who ever, he will continue to serve the community in the COMMUNITY’S best interest!
Anyone who decides they cant work with him, show that they do not have the community’s best interest at heart and has no comprehension of what the term “ACHDUS” means!
It occurred once, when someone laid the blame of a tragedy on some negative hanhogoys among chassidim, that the Rebbe became terribly upset. “Who is he to say what causes what?…”
is there an absentee ballot?
Just make it lower case, but so sad, so true. Enough is enough of the terrible sinus chinom. I feel like the three weeks began before the “election”.
EVERYONE PLEASE!!! SHOLOM MORDECHAI RUBASHKIN IS BEING SENTENCED FOR 27 YEARS AND YOU ARE BUSY CURSING EACH OTHER!!! SHAME ON YOU ALL!!! YES, ACHDUS AND AHAVAS YISROEL IS ALSO TO PEOPLE WHO i CAN’T TOLERATE AND HATE WITH GUTS! STOP THIS PROCESS NOW!! DOESN’T MATTER WHO SAID WHAT, IT DOESN’T MATTER WHO WINS OR LOSSES, SIT DOWN AND ASK MECHILA FROM EACH OTHER, LIVE AND LET LIVE!!! THE LIFE OF A PERSON AND HIS ENTIRE FAMILY IS RUINED BECAUSE OF CROWN HEIGHTS POLITICS, CROWN HEIGHTS RABONIM, CROWN HEIGHTS ASKONIM AND THE LIST IS TOO LONG!!!
Unlike the present vaad Hakohol Eli Cohen is honest & trust worthy Delaying any further will give them what they want more opportunity to stir up trouble. They agreed in writing to abide by the decisions of the Bais din & are looking for any way around that
I think what is meant by ‘puzzling outcome’ is that there was only one winner so far and nobody knows when/how this will be resolved.
i only hope it is resolved quickly and peacfully.
to quote: “the puzzling outcome of the Crown Heights”…
What was puzzling? That Crown Heights stood up, together, to oust the bad-guys?
You should be honest with your reporting… What is “puzzling” is that the old-vaad does not want to “efen dee aygelach” [ open their eyes ] and see that this really is gonna be a new crown heights…
Eli Cohen is NOT impartial. So whatever he says should take that into account.
Which candidates will be by the runoff you can vote for?
This is EXACTLY why this date was chosen. Because it’s a holiday weekend. Some people want to destroy.
IF YOU WANT YOUR VOTE HEARD, GET BACK EARLY ENOUGH TO VOTE!
Ever heard of POSTAL BALLOTS???
Rabbi Rosenberg was to suggest to the other dayanim that a caretaker vaad consisting of Tamir,. Brownstein or Bennaroch, Hecht and Hackner sho;uld take over immediately, and then in Ellul a run-off would be held at the same time as the election for a third rav and the lowest vote-getter would be dropped.
