On the eve of the sentencing of Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin, thousands are expected to join a large Unity Rally in his merit.
To be held Monday, June 21, at Bais Yaakov at 4420 15th Avenue in Brooklyn’s Boro Park, the 9 PM event is expected to gather Jews from diverse backgrounds.
Prominent lawyer Nathan Lewin will be speaking about his close involvement in the bank fraud charges against Rubashkin, a former manager of the Agriprocessors plant in Postville, Iowa.
Pinchos Lipshutz, publisher and editor of the Yated Neeman, will be speaking about the overzealous prosecution against Rubashkin that his haredi weekly was been reporting about throughout the case.
Rubashkin’s married son, Getzel Rubashkin, will be bringing to light the endless pain and toll the case has on his entire family and the Postville Jewish community.
Other speakers will be Rabbi Shimon Zev Meisels, Rav of Yismach Moshe in Kiryat Yoel, and Rabbi Avrohom Schorr, Rav of Tiferes Yaakov in Flatbush.
COLlive.com – Chabad Lubavitch Community News Service will be broadcasting the event live to Jewish communities and individuals from around the world.
Other haredi websites will be providing COLlive’s video webcast to their readers inviting them to join the prayers for Rubashkin.
Rubashkin has been acquitted of charges that he allowed minors to work at his kosher meatpacking plant, the first legal victory he’s scored in a long time.
After a five-week trial in an Iowa state court and 12 hours of deliberations, a jury cleared Rubashkin of the 67 misdemeanor charges. On Tuesday, June 22, he will be sentenced in the financial fraud case a federal jury found him guilty of last fall. Federal prosecutors are seeking 21 to 27 years behind bars.
