Professor Michael (Avrohom Michoel ben Yitzchok) Hasofer of Sydney, Australia, passed away Thursday.
He is survived by his wife Avigayil Hasofer, his children Daniel Yitzchok Hasofer of Sydney, Australia, Boruch Mordechai Hasofer of Rechovot, Israel, Chayah Pesse Kaye of Sydney, Australia, Menachem Mendel Hasofer of Hong Kong, Rachel Ethel Tanya Charet, sons and daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren – many serving in positions of leadership and shlichus of the Rebbe around the globe.
Professor Hasofer and his wife Dr. Atarah obm returned to observant Judaism years ago, through the shlichus of Rabbi Shneur Chaim Gutnick obm, who was sent by the Lubavitcher Rebbe to Tasmania, Australia.
The professor soon joined the ranks of the Chabad Shluchim, lecturing extensively around the globe in many languages on the topic of Torah and science.
His international reputation as an academic and scientist, professor emeritus of statistics and mathematics of NSW University, offered him great assistance in his reaching out in his very special way to many lost and assimilated Jews, returning them to their Jewish heritage.
The Funeral will take place at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, 24th of Sivan – 6 June, at the Chevra Kaddisha Sydney and will afterwards continue to the Rookwood cemetery.

Sunday Mincha & Maariv and throughout the Shivah (except Friday) will be at 4:50p.m.
Shacharis will be at 9:30a.m.

he was my grandfather and i am proud to be his grandson i am sure he will rise to the highest level because he was a baal teshuvah and they stand in higher place then tzadikim gemurim so as i know my stubborn grandfather he will not rest there and will claim that moshiach will come especially because of the heating up situation in our land

Baruch Dayan HaEmes. He was such a clear speaker and brought the Rebbe’s perspective to life about science and Torah and how there is no clash. His approach was unique – saying that we teachers should make sure we teach what pure science is, which is not treif, so that the children realise they are capable of discerning which scientific theories are probable and which are not, and that students and frum teachers need not fear science as apikorsus if they have these thinking skills. As a Buchur who learned in Sydney for a year, I had the merit to meet Professor Hasofer. What an amazing, kind, and, brilliant individual.
