A Jewish Star singing competition begins previewing its contestants. This week: Binyomin Schapiro (30) of Crown Heights sings the Rostover Niggun.

Binyomin Schapiro, 30, married and a father of 3.
Occupation:
Works at a Auction Ware, a hardware-retail store in Crown Heights.
Musical Aspirations:
As a child I loved to sing and had a good voice. Whenever they taught us a song in school I quickly caught on and came back home singing it.
Reality Check:
I didn't find any time or way to go about it (a musical career).
Favorite Singer:
Avraham Fried.
Favorite Song:
I have a few. One of them is the Rostover Niggun (my audition).

I hope to be singing more often and become a singer and make yidden happy.

what makes a singer a great singer?
is this talent? or is this your average guy singing a Nigun very nicely. listen to avraham fried sing a nigun "pitch" "range" "control" in one word TALENT, i'm not putting anyone down but y does every average joe think they've got it? you guys don't watch TV? but this looks like "America's got talent" with a chasidishe twist. either way, if this is it hatzlacha rabah on a new career path.

Rules
There's got to be rules in this competition. There's nothing in this guy's audition besides the music and filters to make his voice sound better.
Is that what this competition is about? Whose studio recording is better? What if a guy doesn't have money to compete with this level of professionalism?
He sounds like a mixture between Shlomo Carelbach and Mordechai Ben David.
