EXCLUSIVE: The star of this year's Soul II Soul concert will be the renowned Chassidic music star Avraham Fried. The concert will also showcase new talent in the eagerly-anticipated "A Jewish Star" competition.

Preparations are underway for the annual Soul II Soul concert, which takes place yearly in Crown Heights, benefitting children with special needs.

In what is shaping up to be a spectacular evening of entertainment, renowned Chassidic music star Avraham Fried will perform alongside three finalists in the talent search for the next Jewish singing star.

The Soul II Soul concert has become an eagerly-anticipated yearly event, which has headlined famous entertainers, such as Avraham Fried, Mordechai Ben David and Lipa Schmeltzer in the past.

This year's concert will take place on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Brooklyn School for Music & Theatre, at 883 Classon Avenue just off Eastern Parkway, in Brooklyn, New York.

"The purpose of this concert is to generate financial support for Crown Heights children with special needs. A unique performance is in the works to bring the community together for an evening of togetherness to benefit this cause," said Tzirl Goldman, the show's co-producer.

"Of special note is the 'A Jewish Star' contest which we hope will feature new talent in the Jewish music world. We’re looking forward to the next few months being very exciting as we plan the show.”

The organizers of A Jewish Star competition have also recently added more song selection for contestants.

"After being approached by singers with unique singing skills, such as cantors who felt excluded from the competiton by the limitations of the rules, we felt that in keeping with the spirit of achdus and inclusiveness, we should relax some of the rules to allow for a broader participation," said Shmuly Goldman, co-producer of the event.

"We are excited by the response to date and about the prospect of discovering the next Jewish Star," Goldman added.

Contestants have already begun sending in their video submissions, which will be showcased on COLlive in the near future.

Those wishing to compete are urged to send in their videos as soon as possible, as voting will begin soon.

jewish star rules
i really hope they stick to niggunim only because this is a chabad concert and that ensures that a chabadnik will win...which is what this is about, its not for the whole world.
also i'm sure people already spent money on their demos so they can't just change and allow any music then its not fair

Wow - They changed it?
I was surprized when they said only chabad nigunim at first, i think its a good idea to include any jewish song.
gives people more of a choice.
