Banquet Guest: Dr. Luchins

Dr. David Luchins, a prominent professor and Chairman of Touro College’s Political Science Department, is a regular lecturer at Aish, Hillel, Orthodox Union, NCSY and other outreach group.

A devoted disciple of the late Rav Ahron Soleveichik OBM, Luchins is invited to speak at college campuses, Yeshivot and synagogues throughout North America and Israel.

But on Sunday, November 15, 2009, Luchins will be reveal a personal account: his family’s relationship with the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson.

Dr. Luchins was chosen to be the guest speaker, or as it is known to some, the ‘lay leadership address,’ at the gala banquet of the International Kinus Hashluchim convention in Brooklyn, NY.

As a senior advisor to U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, serving on his staff for twenty years, Luchins enjoyed a warm relationship with the Rebbe.

And while he was interviewed for JEM’s Living Torah video magazine, a Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch official told COLlive.com: “The professor has stories that were never heard before about many Yechidus he and his father had.”

Luchins is very active in Jewish communal life, serving as vice-president of the Orthodox Union since 1976, and as a committee member of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, Anti-Defamation League and the Jewish Fund for Justice.

The Dvar Torah at the banquet in Brooklyn’s Armory will be delivered by Rabbi Aryeh Sufrin, Director of Chabad Lubavitch Ilford, Essex UK, who received an MBE from her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II this month.
