An eager crowd of men, women and children gathered Sunday to celebrate the first anniversary of COLlive.com under clear blue skies in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood.
Kingston Avenue was filled with smiling faces, as children enjoyed free cotton candy, popcorn, face art by Pnina and an obstacle course by Gymie’s gym.
COLlive t-shirts emblazoned with the slogan “Got News?” were handed out to participants as well.
Ever since the launch one year ago, COLlive has grown to immense popularity as a community outlet uniting Lubavitchers worldwide.
“This was a bitter-sweet year, and we wished to end the Hakhel year with a united and joyous communal event,” said Yehuda Ceitlin, editor of COLlive.
Crown Heights resident Shmuly Stern emceed the concert, which was produced by Yossi Fraenkel, with sound by BenShimon orchestra and studio.
The event kicked off with kids entertainer Chaim Fogelman and Rabbi Shmuel Butman, Director of the Lubavitch Youth Organization and host of COLlive’s Shabbos Night Live, who said a Dvar Torah and blew the Shofar.
Festive yellow balloons dotted the crowd, who enjoyed a rocking concert by an assembly of promising new Jewish artists: Benny Friedman, Dovid Stein, Beri Weber, Shloime Taussig, Dovid Gabay, Yosef Chaim Shwekey and Yoni Zeigelbaum, accompanied by the Freilach Orchestra.
A raffle was held for a travel sukkah by the Sukkah Center. The winner was Kalman Goodman of Crown Heights.
The concert ended with a Sefer Torah procession to the Kahal Chassidim Shul on Carroll Street and Schenectady Avenue in Crown Heights, amidst music and dancing.
