40-year-old James Vincent has been indicted on charges of strangulation and assault as hate crimes for an unprovoked attack on a Jewish man last month in Crown Heights.
Vincent was arraigned Wednesday on a 17-count indictment in connection with the Shabbos afternoon attack on 52-year-old Menachem Moscowitz on April 21.
Moscowitz was walking home from Synagogue at around 1 p.m. when prosecutors say he passed Vincent near Rutland Road and East 46th Street, who alleged yelled, “You f—ing Jew, you Jews took my house and mortgage.”
Moscowitz kept walking. Vincent then allegedly rushed the older man from behind and squeezed Moscowitz’s neck, then punched him in the head and body and squeezed his arms around the man’s head. Two bystanders intervened as Vincent allegedly continued to yell anti-Semitic epithets. Then he ran off.
Prosecutors say surveillance video helped identify the suspect, who they also learned used a credit card bearing his name to buy ice cream at a store near the scene of the attack. He was arrested on April 27, 2018.
“This alleged attack against a religious person is disturbing and completely unacceptable,” Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in a statement. “Brooklyn’s strength is in its diversity and I will never tolerate such hate-motivated crimes in our communities. The defendant in this case has now been indicted and I intend to hold him accountable.”
The 40-year-old was arraigned on charges of strangulation as a hate crime and assault as a hate crime in Brooklyn Criminal Court Wednesday, prosecutors said.
Vincent was held on $50,000 bail and ordered to return to court on Aug. 15, said prosecutors. He could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
For quite some time now the perpetrators have not made attempts to rob at all, but to specifically do violence to a Jew!
Ask the DA what sentence they would give if this happened to their father, son, etc.!!!!
As tough as they try to appear, they don’t really care about the Jews and wrongs against them.
Since most in CH don’t vote, what should we expect?
This guy is a danger to people why does he get bail?! Who’s to say that between now and August 15 he’s not going to hurt someone else?!
He needs life in prison
For asking for such a low sentence considering the crime.
And shame on the judge if the criminal actually sits for less than 25 years.
And the judge should so their job, not let him free or give him one year for trying to kill a Jew! (Which is the punishment he’ll probably get.)
He’ll probably not be behind bars for more than a few years, if that.
Why aren’t the DA and judge taking it seriously?
Could it be that no one in CH votes so they don’t care about us so much?… I wonder…
He is a cold blooded, calculating Jew hater! Community members better work hard on this if they want him put away or it won’t happen.
Crime is ‘Big $’ for government.
This guy was arrested, encarcerated ,
at least 40 times!
Severe punishment would have prevents thus. ‘The
Seven Noahide Laws,’ NOW!
Civilization now! Down With ‘The American Jungle!’
Does anyone know who the people are who got involved in getting the perpetrator away from the victim?
He will likely not be convicted at all. The defense will argue that he wasn’t responsible, because he couldn’t control his rage on account of his ancestors having been slaves. And the jury will buy it.
Stop living under a rock. The only way he’ll get more then three years jail is if we keep a strong eye on this case. I think we can’t expect the full 25 years but due to his numerous bail violations he should be able to get at least 5 plus years.
and be out in 1 or 2. That’s facts. He’s not worried he’s smiling.
Not right! Not right!
And the judge will probably give lower than that.
Judges and the District Attorney are on the ballot. But almost on one in CH votes so there you have it.
It would be much higher!
He’s trying to show he’s being “tough” but he isn’t.
What about all the other anti-Jewish criminals that he sends back to the street?
If everyone in CH voted this wouldn’t happen. But CH doesn’t vote so why should the politicians and the District Attorney care more?
The sentence being asked for is much smaller than this guy deserves. And many other antisemitic criminals walk away scot-free or with a slap on the wrist by the DA.
If we all voted the DA (and his politician bosses) would take crimes against us much more seriously.
The judge will probably sentence him to less than 25 years.
The DA needs to ask for much more from the judge.
If the crime was the other way around you bet he would.
If the DA is only asking for “up to” 25 years for this, the judges (many who don’t like Jews either) can easily give much less than that.
The DA is taking this seriously but not as serious as it should be taken. And other “smaller” crimes against us are treated as nothing by him.
And ask for life in prison.
And other antisemitic crimes should be taken seriously as well, even if they don’t make it to the national media, the criminals shouldn’t be let free or given a tiny punishment like until now.
He tried to kill someone!! And it was because he is a Jew!!
