President Donald Trump discussed his pardon of former kosher meat executive Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin in a conversation during an informal dinner at the White House this past Tuesday.
Noted lawyer and academic Alan Dershowitz, one of the handful of people present at the dinner, shared details about it in an interview with Jake Turx, senior White House correspondent for Ami magazine.
Dershowitz, a scholar of United States constitutional law and criminal law, confirmed that the case of Rubashkin came up during the dinner. “Trump brought it up,” he said. “He remembered that I had asked him about it.”
“The president said he was very proud of what he had done and he said he got some criticism, but he had done the right thing and he was very pleased
about it,” Dershowitz recalled.
“He said to the group that he thought the sentence was unjust and that he wanted to do the right thing,” Dershowitz said, referring to the 27-year sentence which was widely criticized by many attorneys general and judges.
Dershowitz spoke to Trump about the plight of Rubashkin some 4 months before the pardon. Asked about the wait, he explained: “My insight is that it takes time.
There’s a process that you have to go through with the Justice Department.
They have to make sure that he’s been a good prisoner, that he’s not violent or
dangerous—that kind of thing. But it always takes time.
Asked about the timing of the announcement, Dershowitz said: “I don’t know. We pressed really hard and managed to succeed on the last day of Chanukah. But he didn’t mention that [during the dinner].”

Go president Trump you are the man G-d bless you and G-d bless America 🙂
Trump commuted his sentence which means that he is still has this on his record but he is simply released out of prison early
Not to take away from the enormity of the gesture by the president, but let’s not use wrong terms here
On the side of good and has the courage to show it.
DJT will go as one of America’s greatest presidents. He has so much opposition but will rise above the swamp.
BS”D Go Trump- 3 term President
President is a good man, who did the right thing. He is a true leader.
It took a lot of courage going up against the Justice Dept, a department which is anything but.
When draining out the swamp, my hope is that Mr. Trump, who is certainly the most brave president since Pres Reagan, clean out this corrupt justice department and their awful tactics.
There are many more cases of people who are incarcerated unjustly.
G-d bless President Trump.
