Yossi Green’s Song for Rubashkin

Legendary Jewish composer Yossi Green released a new song upon hearing about the commute of Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin‘s prison sentence on Wednesday.

Rubashkin, a father of 10 children, was convicted by an Iowa judge to 27 years in prison for bank fraud while running the largest kosher meat-processing plant in the country. Attorneys general and attorneys called the sense harsh.

Green released the song titled “Motzee” a short while after the White House has announced the President Donald Trump commuted the sentence and that Rubashkin was released from the Otisville prison in New York.

Speaking to COLlive.com, Green confirmed that he composed the song was about Rubashkin but he noted that it wasn’t new. “I didn’t write the song after the news, I wrote it for the news,” he said.

Green revealed that he wrote the song a while ago at the request of the Munkacser Rebbe, Rabbi Moshe Leib Rabinovich who was heavily involved in the behind-the-scenes efforts in Rubashkin’s legal case.

“The Munkacser Rebbe asked me to write a song for Rubashkin and other Yidden who are in prison and need a yeshua,” Green said. “Last night, on the final night of Chanukah, the Munkacser Rebbe sang this song over and over and over.”

Green says he was ecstatic when he heard the news.

“It’s unbelievable. I cried and davened and sang and hoped for him, like everyone else did. Klal yisroel is happy tonight. He captured the hearts of all and now, on the last day of Chanukah this is happening.”

Israel-based flutist Avi Piamenta also joined the celebrations by playing the Chabad victory niggun of Didan Notzach from his home in Kfar Chabad.
