People were huddled for hours on Sunday night to hear inspiring words of Torah and chassidus at the many farbrengens held at the small and main shuls of 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights.
Rabbis, chassidim and bochurim were joined by participants returning from the gala banquet of the International Kinus Hashluchim that took place hours earlier in Bayonne, New Jersey.
Tzfas Chief Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, a guest of the Kinus, was seen farbrenging alongside Russia’s Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar who was friendly with his revered father, Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu OBM.
The crowd around them filled the small ‘zal’ shul upstairs of 770, saying L’chaim and singing niggunim for many hours until Rabbi Eliyahu needed to depart as he prepares to leave to Israel.
The cause for celebration was Rosh Chodesh Kislev, the first time the Rebbe left 770 after suffering a major heart attack 5 weeks earlier in 1977. The Rebbe returned home on that day, signaling his recovery.
Chassidim everywhere rejoiced at the good news and have been celebrating the day as a Chabad holiday, noting how the Rebbe redoubled his efforts on behalf of the Jewish nation and all of humanity.
More farbrengens were held in the downstairs Shul of 770, with Migdal Haemek Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Yitzchok Goldberg, Brazil Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Shmai Ende, Zhitomir Shliach Rabbi Shlomo Wilhelm and Thailand Shliach Rabbi Nechemia Wilhelm sitting at the helm.
