Like biblical Abraham of old, I was sitting in front of my cottage yesterday, having just made a birthday call to my beloved brother, Norman.
It also happened to be one of America’s great holidays, Columbus Day, and also the birthday of Giuseppe Verdi, so the schools were closed, and the children were home.
Then suddenly and unexpectedly a Chabad Succah truck pulled up, driven by Rebbetzin Perel Krasnjansky of Chabad of Hawaii, with her one-man crew (her son, Yisrael DovBer Krasnjansky), and a portable Succah which they immediately set up.
Before you could say, “Jack Rabinowitz,” they set it up, took out their lulav and esrog and had each of us–2 adults and 3 kids–make the blessings, followed by a delicious piece of honey cake, preceded by the blessing (which the Rebbetzin baked herself).
Is there anything she cannot do? This remarkable lady is not only the dynamic principal of the Chabad school, where my grandchildren attend, but she runs and is the hostess of all the Chabad events and activities, and is the mother of 7 children. Wow!
Before I realized what happened, they were gone. As I thought about it, I tried to imagine how biblical Abraham might have felt about his surprise visit by the angels…
Thank you Krasnjanskys for all the wonderful work you guys do!!!
What a powerful mitzvah the Krasnianskis did with this family.
BH for amazing Chabad Shluchim around the world.
