Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval has joined 2 Chabad rabbis for an impromptu prayer in the aftermath of the Las Vegas Strip massacre that occurred on Sunday night.
58 people were killed and another 515 were injured when a lone gunman opened fire at a country music concert at the Mandalay Bay resort. The attack was the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
“A tragic & heinous act of violence has shaken the #Nevada family. Our prayers are w/ the victims & all affected by this act of cowardice,” the governor tweeted in response to the attack
In a press conference, the governor said “It’s unimaginable what people are going through right now, adding that “We have to rely on our faith at a time like this.”
Sandoval was visiting victims at the Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center when he encountered the twin brothers, Rabbi Levi Harlig of Chabad of Southern Nevada and Rabbi Motti Harlig of Young Jewish Professionals Las Vegas.
The two rabbis were also visiting patients and families of the horrific attack at the hospital on Monday morning. In fact, Rabbi Levi says he “was able to do a mitzvah by putting on Tefillin with the family of one of the Jewish victims.”
When they met governor, Rabbi Levi says they stood together for “a prayer for blessings and healing to all the victims and their families.” The rabbi promised, “We will continue our prayers!”
