Customer Assaults Shop Owner

By COLlive reporter

A youth who tried to steal services from a Crown Heights shop owner got more than he bargained for in return.

The teenager had submitted a cell phone for repair to Y&B Computers, a computer repair and Troubleshooting store on Kingston Avenue, and returned to the shop on Tuesday afternoon to pick it up.

When the shop's owner told him the cost of the repair, the teen refused to pay, saying his sister would be along shortly and would pay then.

The youngster then demanded that he be given the phone in the meantime without pay, according to a report.

After the shop owner insisted on payment before giving him the phone, without warning, the teenager suddenly turned violent and "threw a crazy punch at him," a bystander told COLlive.com.

A large fight between the two ensued, causing a large crowd to gather on the sidewalk in front of the store.

Shmira volunteers, who received multiple calls regarding the incident, arrived quickly and held the suspect until the police arrived and arrested the teen.

Boruch Hashem for the few people who were there at the right place and at the right time to hold him down. Also special mention to Shmira who came in record breaking time. In an emergency always call 911 and Shmira at 718-221-0303 and non emergency related calls CHAVERIM 718-222-1800

So predictable
Gimme gimme gimme, that sense of entitlement to free everything, demanding something for nothing or turning violent, complete lack of civilized communication skills that distinguish the human being from the animal, all ego and no dignity. Yes we've seen the whole gamut so many times in our neighborhood. It's about time we stop succumbing to the blackmail of threat of violence and show these thugs that they WILL get as good as they give, and then some. Kudos to the owners of the store!

This punk should have gotten a beating his grandchildren would feel! A message must be sent, you threaten with violence, you will get a pounding... the cops will arrest this punk, and the system will put him back on the street with no lesson learned. God I wish I was there... Yussle the muscle

this is appalling!
Sorry the shopkeeper had to deal with this. That being said there is no reason to publish the photo of this teen. He deserves a right to privacy just like you would hope for if G-d forbid your child acted this way. Hope whoever threw punches went to the hospital after exchanging bloody punches.

Poor decision making skills
Of all the stores in Crown Heights to attempt to haggle, he had to choose the one store that is run by the CH Russian mafia? I say nyet.

INTERESTING!!!
EVEN IF THE TEEN RAN AWAY, THEY WOULD KNOW EXACTLY WHO HE IS, AND WHERE HE LIVES, BECAUSE THEY COULD TRACK HIM DOWN BY GOING THROUGH HIS PHONE!!!

You are an idiot for saying you shouldn't publish a picture of him he is violent and other store owners should know to be careful if they see him

HAD THIS HAPPENED TO YOU WOULD YOU BE TALKING THE SAME WAY ? PRIVACY ?- THE ONLY PRIVACY HE DESERVES IS THE PRIVACY OF A JAIL CELL. WHERE DID YOU LEARN TO THINK, LET ALONE TALK IN THIS WARPED MANNER. THESE DREGS OF SOCIETY HAVE NO PLACE AMONG CIVILIZED PEOPLE, AND IT IS THE THINKING OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT CAUSE THESE ANIMALS TO ACT LIKE THIS, AND ALLOWS THESE PERPETRATORS TO WALK AROUND FREE AFTER COMMITTING THESE NEFARIOUS TYPE OF ACTS.

I was there when he first came in with his friend.
While Baruch was working on my phone the said teenager came in with his friend. It looked like the phone needed to be completely uploaded from scratch. He wanted programs installed and when Baruch asked him the model he reported it was in fact an older model but on scrutiny the fee for labor for such an up-scale version of $35 didn't seem unreasonable. The kid and his friend asked if they could wait in the store. Baruch was acting very polite and casually. The store is cramped so it didn't seem unreasonable when he told them to return in 30 to 45 minutes. "Its a lot of work and there's a lot of traffic coming through" he said. So they left. When he finished working on my phone I walked to the door and saw them sitting on a bentch."They dont have $35" I blurted out, turning around to caution Brodkin. "They have it" he naievely reassured me. "Its an expensive phone. Whats important is 1) He told the owner of the phone the price before he did the work. The kid let him do the work knowing that he didn't have the $35 to cover the service fee from the get-go. Yet he let the phone get loaded while contemplating what to do for a free service. The rest is history.

Of course you should publish his picture. Everyone should know who this is. He will be on the street and doing it again tomorrow. Climb back under your liberal rock.

Thank you COL for your concern about privacy. People make bad decisions and will be dealt with by the authorities. Your care for the community by publicizing the incident so others can protect themselves is appreciated. May this person learn from this mistake.

Good Job by Store owner.
The store owner deserves our respect. He defended himself very well from a thug who came to rob and beat him. This is very similar to what thug and low life Michel Brown did when he came into a store with a "friend" and stole a box of cigars. The store owner tried to stop Brown but the thug just shoved him away and left. We all know what happened to thug Brown.
This robber should thank the store owner for stopping him before the cops arrived. Good Job Y&B.

$35 and look what happened to his store
As an IT professional all repairs we haven't done for years and years same with Smartphones. The work is tedious, lengthy and takes great skill let alone patients. Look what the poor shop keeper went through for $35 not $135. What was he making $10-$20? Don't think the Shopkeeper is thrilled about all this. Nothing good came from this. He probably will not get the $35 there seems to be damage to the store way over $35. BH he wasn't seriously hurt. I will say this was no 10 year old it was a grown Teenager I have one he would never ever think of doing this. The pictures are a way of life that's what everyone does if there is injustice done grab your phone. I will say it's terrible that someone may think Jews will just stand for this. If the owner would have just given the phone without pay. That would send a bad message. I still feel this was a lose lose for the poor owner. I live nowhere near CH but I will make it my business to purchase something at his store.

"Law enforcement" in crown heights
If a Jew touches anyone they want to side within self defense, they put out an APB and all officers spend their time on only catching 'the Jew'. It was probably only the presence of many people and shmira that stopped them from arresting the store owner. Assault a Jew in Crown Heights and nothing happens. The criminal is not going to serve time. That's what I call enabling crime- and that is a crime. We just don't trust the crown heights police.

Noahide Code
When can we start posting the Noahide Laws? Can anyone rich in the community help to post the Noahide Laws? Everywhere within a 1 mile radius of crown heights would be a start! G-d told the prophet Isaiah that "it's not enough if only the Yidden serve Me" we are supposed to be a light to the nations not walk around with our nose in the air. The Rebbe told us that the Gentiles are on a level now that they can receive and learn the Noahide laws and a lot of them really want to learn it. Blood is blood and now it was spilled again in our community.

acting out
this fellow has either watched too many violent movies and/or comes from a home where using fists is supposedly the way to get what you want. the same people who are concerned with shielding him should be as concerned about the lack of "a moment of silence" that the Rebbe advocated for in public schools; and if they're really concerned, nobody's stopping them from making sure such a moment is actually instituted. how sad and frustrating that mankind is creating its own problems.
