Supporters of Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin, the kosher meat executive harshly sentenced to 27 years in prison, are urging the public to sign a prison reform petition that can reduce his sentence.
The U.S. Sentencing Commission is currently seeking public comment on what its priorities should be for the 2018 Guideline amendment cycle.
The Prisology organization is lobbying to reduce overly harsh federal sentences. The amendment would alter the Sentencing Table of the Sentencing Guidelines.
They are asking for the public’s support so they can get this idea on the U.S. Sentencing Commission’s priorities list for the 2018 Amendment cycle. Their aim is to garner 50,000 signatures.
Between electronic submissions of over 28,000 and paper submissions, they received over 48,000 support letters. They said 50,000 support letters are needed by July 31, 2017.
“Be’ezras Hashem, we need to ask all the people we can to do the mitzvah of Pidyoin Shevuyim, and sign up. They are saying that if there are 50,000 signatures they will do it,” a letter from Rubashkin himself read.
Rubashkin said that “this was tried before, about 10 years ago, but only 20,000 signatures came across (according to a prisoner). This could mean up to 15 years reduction for many prisoners, for many sentences.”

Rubashkin’s sentence illustrates just how corrupt the juidical system is;he’s a first time offender with no prior criminal record.on the contrary,he’s known for his kindness and generousity to people in need.He’s been handed down a prison sentence which does not do justice to our legal system.The way this case has been handled,month before the arrest,with the prosecution actively involved in the arrest,leaves one wondering as in who’s interest a twenty seven year sentence is and what else is going on that the public doesn’t know of….
I followed the case over the last years it is the most mismanaged unfairly judged with so much evidence of how squed the evidence was it is an embarrassment to the US judicial system.and that the government has not stepped in to rectify the wrong is quite scarry and leaves one feeling completely mistrustful of the system and embarassed that the country I held in such high esteem can stand by and let this happen

When prosecutors failed to prove that he acted illegally with the illegal immigrant workers since they provided proper documentation then they tried a different way by shutting down is operation destroying millions in product since it got spoiled and they invented bank fraud while the bank themselves didn’t didn’t say so. It never happened in history such a harsh punishment for such a minor infraction
He’s not a murderer, kidnapper etc. the woman who kidmapped my brother only got 6 years and he’s special needs. The justice system here is corrupt!!!

This was a huge miscarriage of justice. There were numerous malicious and illegal manouvers from both the Bench and prosecution. Mr. Rubashkin’s release and correction of this huge micarriage of justice is long overdue!!!!

The initiative has nothing to do with Rabbi Rubashkin or with any other prisoner unjustly incarcerated. It’s an old initiative to reduce prison sentences across the board. That means if it succeeds, which seems unlikely, for now, whatever the outcome of the signature drive, everybody gets a reduction, even prisoners that you would prefer remain in prison. The extent of the reduction reportedly scales with the severity of the crime, but you cannot fathom the workings of that scaling from the website (surprise, surprise). If a person is not a danger to the public his sentence shouldn’t be reduced. Rabbi Shalom Rubashkin is and was not a threat, rather a asset to the community. In the sake of our community please reduce his sentence drammatically. Thank you.

Shalom Rubashkin was incarcerated in prison for so many years by a travesty of justice. He’s sentence should immediately be immediately reduced. He is a G-d fearing and moral person and does not deserve such harsh punishment which causes people to lose faith in the judicial system

It is not advisable to participate in something when you do not really know what it is about.
Releasing prisoners on a large scale just to ease the prison burden might be unwise. I don’t blame Rubashkin to endorse something that might help him. But it is up to each individual who wants to participate to inform themselves about what they are signing.
There are other ways to reduce prison overload that does not involve releasing criminals into society.

I tried to open up the link, but I couldn’t get it, but I will say that the faster Rabbi Rubashkin can get out the better. In this tremendous schoos, he should be reunited with his family, ultimately leading up to the arrival of Moshiach who will reunite us with all of our loved ones and bring back the the Bais Hamikdash Ha’shlishi.
