6-year-old Yaakov Rosenberg of Bnei Brak was born with a throat defect which has kept the child from successfully eating or drinking his entire life, and has made breathing ‘difficult’. He receives all of his “food” through an IV. He has had two operations already, both of which were unsuccessful.
After seeing their son’s small body lie limp on an operating table twice, the Rosenbergs had begun to lose hope that their child would live to see adulthood. That changed, however, when they were recently informed of a specialist in New York who can perform the procedure needed to save and transform Yaakov’s life. As is the case with many such procedures, the cost of prolonging the child’s life is $35,000.
The Rosenberg family, unable to pay the tremendous debt on their own, were contacted by tzedaka organization Kupat Ha’Ir. Kupat Ha’Ir reviews and selects families whose situations are particular painful, and whose need is especially dire, for fundraising campaigns. The Rosenbergs have been selected for the newest campaign.
Their Chesed Fund page shows video footage of Yaakov’s mother Chaya, addressing the camera with urgency. Photos show a young boy with an innocent smile on his face, seemingly unaware of his suffering. It is heartbreaking to imagine that such a sweet and fragile soul could be lost due to a lack of money.
The scenario is truly a mother’s worst nightmare: A child’s life hanging in the balance, his parents powerless to help.
