Mrs. Flory Levy, the matriarch of a large family, passed away on Wednesday, 18 Tammuz 5777, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She was 91.
Born in the port city of Safi, Morocco in 1926 as one of 9 children, she married her husband Meir Avner Levy at the age of 17.
Her husband served as the chazzan of the famed Neve Shalom synagogue in Casablanca and was known for his soul-stirring melodies. For close to 50 years, he taught generations of Bar Mitzvah boys.
She was a beloved mother to her 7 children and was known in the community as a wise woman with a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on in times of need.
In addition to being proficient in the ancient Moroccan Piyutim, she was famous for being a talented, resourceful and master chef, often cooking single-handedly for weddings in Morocco when a family couldn’t afford a caterer.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1988 in New York City and decided to move back to her community in Casablanca on her own.
In 1999, at the behest of her family, she moved to Crown Heights to be closer to her growing family and was affectionately known to all as “Mammo.”
Family members described her as kind, witty, vivacious, and always the life of the party. Known for her Emunas Tzadikim, she dispensed blessings to visitors and guests, especially for those looking to find a Shidduch or to have children.
She is survived by her children Solly Levy – Paris, France; Remy Levy – Wayne, NJ; Levana Kirschenbaum – New York City; Betsalel Levy – Paris, France; Toby Levy – Crown Heights; Rackel Kirschenbaum – Crown Heights; Lea Schottenstein – Columbus, OH; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be leaving Shomrei Hadas Chapels on Thursday at 2:00 PM for JFK Airport for burial Israel.
The family will be sitting Shiva from Sunday on at 889 Montgomery St. Brooklyn.

Vidal Levy was not Mrs.Levy’s son. He was her youngest sibling.
I remember finding her on a video passing the Rebbe asking a bracha for health, these precious gems we missed out on growing up.
Her children were so proud of her, and for good reason!
Vidal Levy was Flory’s brother, not her son… she still has other surviving siblings in NYC, Israel, and France.
I met Mrs. Levy a few times, and every time I was impressed that she remembered exactly who I was, and specific details about my family, she really cared. She truly seemed like a one of a kind, special woman. Wishing her family long life and happiness.
Mamo was the warmest and most caring woman. She enjoyed life and loved to laugh, and celebrate. She was a precious soul!
We will always remember Mammo!

She will be missed
I have the fondest memories of this warm, vivacious, and sharp woman! She didn’t miss a beat and was always so friendly and happy. She had such a generous nature and it Bh passed down to her children and grandchildren!
What a loss! Mammo was such a special lady, we’ll miss her dearly and am sure she will intervene for more of her special Brachos for klal yisroel.
