New board and a new principal.
The latest restructuring in the administration of Associated Beth Rivkah Schools in Crown Heights was announced this week during the 8th-grade graduation ceremony.
Mrs. Chavi Altein, who served as principal of the Hebrew Department of the Bais Rivkah elementary school for over 2 decades, will be retiring from her position.
The announcement was made by her counterpart, principal of the English Department Mrs. Leah Jacobson, during the event in front of a crowd of students, parents and teachers.
Mrs. Jacobson said that Mrs. Altein will “continue to inspire” the students “in a different role than principal.”
COLlive.com was told that Mrs. Altein is considering to continue with the school in a consultative position. An official notice from the school has yet to be released.
The Beis Rivkah Elementary School spans grades 1 to 8 and is located at Campus Chomesh at 470 Lefferts Avenue corner Brooklyn Ave. It is where students develop a sense of themselves as lifelong learners and are prepared for the more intense educational pursuits of High School and beyond, the school says.
Filling the position of such influence on children’s lives will be Mrs. Gitty Rosenfeld, a former educator at Bais Rivkah who had been the Principal of the Brooklyn-based Shluchim Online School for 10 years.
Mrs. Rosenfeld, daughter of former Bais Rivkah administrator Rabbi Laime Minkowicz, served as a High School teacher and Mechaneches at Bais Rivkah for 13 years before heading the Online School.
In recent years, Mrs. Rosenfeld served as an Instructor of the Teacher Training Program of the Menachem Education Foundation (MEF), an organization promoting elevated learning opportunities in the Jewish world.
Bais Rivkah recently overcame a tumultuous period when teachers of its Primary School went on strike for lack of pay, as a new board of directors has been installed.
The new board told principals, teachers, and parents of the school’s 1,800 students that they are committing to turning the school around for good and ensuring transparency of legal and financial affairs.
A true mentch and a mechaneches with a pure heart. I was both a student at Beis Rivkah and a teacher, and in both capacities I felt how Morah Altein cared to see each individual student be successful. Thank you for all you have done for our moisad
I agree with all the comments expressing the sincerity and care that Mrs Altein had for the children. Yes, I felt she truly truly cared and tried to do everything possible to help resolve any issues. Too bad she is leaving but I give her credit for sticking it out till now – not an easy job at all…
I wish Mrs. Rosenfeld lots and lots of hatzlocho!
Mrs. Altein was my principal in the 90’s and she did a wonderful job.
Mrs. Rosenfeld is a solid educator who will make a great principal too.

Mrs Altein, thank you for adding the warm title “Mamale” to my daughter, when we had to see you on occasion in the office – just showed a warm personal caring.

is a very special person and served as a loving and devoted principal- may Hashem shower her with brachos of revealed good! Hatzlacha rabba to Mrs. Rosenfeld, who is a wonderful mechaneches.
Morah Altien, it’s so hard to believe that you are really not going to be the principal of Bais Rivka any more. The face of Bais Rivka will not be the same! I am sure that Mrs. Rosenfeld is a wise choice, and will be a great principal, but there will be nothing like the heart and sincerety and caring of Morah Altien! I personally witnessed how she was literally like a mother to some students, her home became their home. I saw how she cared for each and every student — belev venefesh. The Yiras Shamayim she imparted was… Read more »
Is there an email or st we can send thank you letters?
Mrs Altein you will be greatly missed, you inspired hundreds and hundreds of students with your devotion to each one of them.
Mrs Gitty rosenfeld is the best person for the job! Awesome choice.
As one of the thousands of students who benefitted from having Mrs. Altein as a principal, I take this opportunity to say thank you.
We always used to joke that Mrs. Altein was so nice that she would punish you for misbehavior by saying, “Mammeleh, you’re suspended.” But it’s really not a joke. It’s what made her the most loving and caring principal that we knew.
BR will definitely miss her.

She was the only one who actually who cared about students & Chinuch & was not involved in the corruption
Great choice of a replacement!!
Beis Rivkah will never be the same without Mrs. Altein as principle! Her care and devotion to each student was unreal and she went to such great lengths to make sure the teachers were happy and well taken care of. Hashem should repay Mrs. Altein with unlimited Brachos for everything she did throughout the years and we should have Moshiach now!
Thank you Mrs. Altein for being a wonderful example for our girls throughout the years. You will be missed.
Will be sorely missed! We are so grateful to you Mrs Altein for educating and caring about our 5 daughters!!!! Thank you!
