In October 2015 there was a horrific terror attack aboard the number 78 bus in the Armon Hanatziv neighborhood in the heart of Jerusalem.
Three people lost their lives on that terrible day, among them, Alon Govberg, 51 years old. He had immigrated to Israel from the former Soviet Union. His murder was especially shocking as he was both shot and stabbed.
Alon was not married and his only relative was his mother who was elderly and not in good health. From the day of the attack, Chabad’s Terror Victims Project (CTVP) has been with his mother, comforting and assisting her as she mourns the loss of her only child.
This year, on Yom Hazikaron (May 1), Israel’s Memorial Day for fallen soldiers and victims of terror, Maya Rahimi, who was wounded in the same attack, posted on Facebook, asking for people to come together at the entrance to the Har HaMenuchot cemetery in Jerusalem to gather for a memorial service for Alon.
She did not want his grave to be empty of people remembering him on this moving day in Israel in which families go to the graves of their loved ones.
Many people came and, led by Rabbi Menachem Kutner, Director of CTVP, they read Psalms and said special prayers on behalf of Alon – a man who was alone in life, but not in death.
Moshiach NOW!!!
