Rabbi Menachem Mendel Deitsch, who served as a Chabad Shliach in France and Israel, passed away on Shabbos as a result of the injuries sustained in an anti-Semitic attack in Ukraine.

He was 64.

On October 8, 2016, Rabbi Deitsch, a longtime Chabad-Lubavitch emissary in France and more recently in Israel, was brutally attacked at the central train station in the city of Zhitomir.

Rabbi Deitsch was severely injured in the attack, and despite hospitalization and continued treatment, his condition continued to deteriorate.

Immediately following the attack, Rabbi Deitsch was hospitalized in the Ukraine. Later, he was airlifted to a hospital in Israel.

In the past month, his health deteriorated, and his life was endangered. On Friday night, with his family and friends beside him, Rabbi Deitsch passed away.

He is survived by his wife Shterna Sara (nee Kalmanson) and their children Mrs. Menucha Fridland – Auberville, France; Rabbi Shnieur Zalman Deitsch – Minsk; Mrs. Chana Appelbaum – Migdal HaEmek, Israel; R’ Yisroel Deitsch – Jerusalem, R’ Levi Yitzchok Deitsch, Jerusalem, Mrs. Yehudis Fradkin, Rechovot Israel, R’ Yosef Eliyahu Deitsch, Krayot, Israel and Shlomo Yehuda, Shmuel, Yocheved, Dovber.

He is also survived by his brothers: Rabbi Chaim Sholom Deitsch, Rabbi Shnieur Zalman Deitsch, Rabbi Moshe Deitsch.

The levaya will take place on Sunday, leaving Shamgar Funeral home in Jerusalem at 2:00 pm.
