The New York Times has finally achieved what not even the Crown Heights riot could accomplish: eradicating all trace of Jews or Judaism from that Brooklyn neighborhood.
A front-page New York Times news article about Mayor Bill de Blasio’s plan to open more homeless shelters in the city reports:
According to the lawsuit, the city is “foisting yet another” shelter on Crown Heights, a largely West Indian and African-American community, in order to avoid “the vocal criticism of the affluent and largely white citizenry” in other neighborhoods. The matter is to be heard before Justice Katherine A. Levine on Tuesday.
Though gentrifying, Crown Heights remains one of the city’s poorer neighborhoods…
The New York Times itself had accurately reported in its real estate section less than two years ago that the neighborhood “has a populous Lubavitcher Hasidic section.”
That same article, from 2015, also reported, “Single-family homes typically sell for around $800,000 to $1.5 million; two-family homes for $1.2 million to $1.7 million; three-family homes for $1.6 million to $2 million.” One of the city’s “poorer” neighborhoods, indeed.
The New York Jewish Week reported in a 2016 article about Crown Heights that there were approximately “23,800 Jews living there, according to UJA-Federation of New York’s 2011 population study.”
so they didn’t mention Jews living in Crown Heights, maybe compared to the African American we are a minority….
while ch is indeed mostly west indian and african-american it has a sizable enough chassidic jewish population to make it worth mentioning. stop bending over backwards to excuse people’s ignoring you or, worse still, spitting in your faces.
p.s. if you don’t like being included in the chassidic community of ch, perhaps you’d prefer more perfect, greener pastures…
The NY Times has a history of dishonest reporting and distorting the facts. Throughout the whole tragic period of the Crown Heights riots and it’s aftermath, they refused to call it “riots” and instead called it “disturbances”. The anti-Jewish and anti-Israel bias that they portray is a blatant position of the newspaper.
This has shown us the problems with the teaching of reading comprehension and critical thinking skills in Crown Heights educational institutions.
about the New York Times is the crossword puzzle. LOL.
What’s the issue here?
The article merely states crown heights is MOSTLY African American and Caribbean, does 75% qualify as most to you?
Please focus on real issues this is a farce.
it’s not called New York Times. It’s called Failing New York Times.
This article is either a Purim Joke or for April Fools
yidden, so let him make a seperate shelters, as the nypost said for the people that are homeless living in banks, that the mayor needs to fix the city!
FAKE NEWS!!!!
Are you implying that Trump is an anti semite? It makes more sense that NY Times is anti semitic than Trump. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
Thanks for stating what has been known all along, the New York Times has always been known as a liberal Rag, and they bend over backwards to appease everyone but the forces they don’t agree with and anti-Semitism has always been a major issue with them so I see no reason why this would be any different, it is important to bring it to our attention so that others do see that and are more aware of it, but I definitely would not purchase or recommend anybody else purchase that rag especially if they’re looking for accurate news.
the Holocaust was about Jews. Leaving out the Jews in any statement is pure Holocaust denial. That you would even write what you did is an outrage! Not that I’m implying you’re a holocaust denier, I know you’re not. What you are is IGNORANT. You can be forgiven for your statement in that you’re a fool in complete ignorance as to what holocaust deniers say and use. And just by the way, your beloved Trump administration went even further by saying that lots of people suffered in the holocaust and among them were also jews. Classic Holocaust denial!
I never called anyone an anti Semite. I merely pointed out that it’s strange (and possibly hypocritical) to be outraged by not mentioning Jews in an article about crown heights (please see above that it was a quote from the lawsuit), and not even report that Jews weren’t mentioned in a statement remembering the holocaust.
In regards to the idea that you don’t need to mention Jews in the holocaust I’d just say that I hope you rethink your opinion. That is A tactic of holocaust deniers.
The only mention of Crown Heights in this article is a reference to the case that was filed opposing the opening of the shelter. The argument brought by the plaintiff in that case is that white neighborhoods nearby are critical of shelters in their community so the shelter was put in Crown Heights, a largely African and West Indian community. Stop trying to create drama. Anti-semitism is alive and well but when people like COL and The Algemeiner post ridiculous articles like this to get attention, you’re just taking away from the real issues. Just lost any remaining respect I… Read more »
Yes, the NYT has a long history of antisemitism, and this is completely consistent with that history.
any statement about the Holocaust is automatically about Jews; there’s no need to mention the word “Jews” explicitly, and the fact that certain people turned this complete irrelevancy into a scandal is just another symptom of their extreme derangement about the President. Only an insane person can actually imagine that the President is any sort of antisemite, or tolerates antisemitism.
COL should not have even republished this
that rag is irrelevant. why give those self hating jew a free promo?
the only thing it’s good for is for wrapping fish
The only reference to CH referred to the text of the lawsuit, which is written by one of the parties involved. Where do you see the New York Times providing any original material with reference to Crown Heights and its demographic makeup?
Not an accurate source of news & imformation about a good many things. Articles are written and published only if they conform to their political and ideological beliefs & ideas. Similar to Communist newspapers (Pravda, etc.) in the Kruschev & Brezhnev eras. Little difference, little truth.
What are you implying? That the New York Times staff are anti-semites? Where was all of your reporting on the Trump administrations not even mentioning jews in their holocaust remembrance day statement!
LOL
