Rabbi Avrohom Baruch Junik, a devoted Chosid who was knowledgeable in Halacha, Jewish history and Minhagei Chabad, passed away on Friday, 19 Adar, 5777.
He was 60 years old.
Rabbi Junik was the son of the known chossid and devoted Meshamesh of the Rebbe, Rabbi Berl Junik OBM and Mrs. Fruma Junik. He helped his father in his holy work.
A big talmid chacham whose learning was matched by his humility, Rabbi Junik was an expert in Halacha, Jewish history and Chabad Minhagim. He was involved in organizing and cataloging the many seforim and rare manuscripts in the Rebbe’s Agudas Chassidei Chabad Library in the 1980’s.
A sincere and devoted chossid, He worked as a computer programmer in the Bank of New York and used his positive relationship with his coworkers to educate them in the Sheva Mitzvos B’nei Noach.
He was beloved by his many friends, who enjoyed learning and farbrenging with him, as he was known for his great knowledge in many subjects.
A recently published sefer included many previously unknown facts about the Chabad Minhagim on Shabbos that Rabbi Junik contributed, Rabbi Michoel Seligson, his longtime friend, related.
A great source of pride to Rabbi Junik was his family roots, being a descendant of the Berditchiver Rebbe. He documented a family tree which he kept updating throughout the years.
He and his wife, Cipi, a noted educator in Bais Rivkah Seminary, were involved in the Mivtza Kashrus campaign years ago as well.
For the past three decades he and his wife mentored searching young college students at the Ivy League Torah Study Program. With his sincerity and deep knowledge, by patiently answering their questions, he had a great impact on many of them to return to their roots.
He is survived by his wife Cipi and children Eliyahu Junik – Shliach in Vermont, Chana Junik – Crown Heights, Sarale Cohen – Crown Heights, Levik Junik – Crown Heights, and Goldie Junik – Crown Heights.
He is also survived by his mother Mrs. Fruma Junik, who will not be told before Shabbos about the passing. The family asks not to inform her.
He is also survived by his brothers Yosef Yitzchok Junik – Crown Heights, Shimshon Aaron Junik – Crown Heights, Nechama Itkin – Pittsburgh, Meir Shlomo Junik – Crown Heights, Menachem Mendel Junik – London, Dovid Junik – Crown Heights and Chanie Spielman – Crown Heights.
The levaya will take place Sunday, leaving Shomrei Hadas in Boro Park at 12:00 pm and passing by 770 at 1:15 PM.
Shiva will take place at 501 Crown Street.

I know some of R’ Avrohom Boruch’s children, and they are very special people.

During the last 1/2 of the year, I was preparing a new sefer – “Halichos Uminhagai Shabbos Kodesh”. In the same time, I was meeting Rabbi Junik more often and being aware of his great knowledge, I shared with him the proofsheets of the Sefer. I was very pleased that Rabbi Junik informed me additional facts (which were unknown). I gladly included it in the Sefer citing his name. The Sefer was published a month ago. I was very happy to give him a copy of the new Sefer. His pleasure of seeing something published, was indescribable. He was an… Read more »

At Ivy League, Rabbi Junik often kept to himself but when you had time with him he was able to share a wealth of knowledge and Torah with you. He had my utmost respect.

I’m shocked and pained to hear of his passing. אברהם ברוך manner exemplified the truest values of מדת החסידות. He was a bit older than I but we reach back together to the early days of אהלי תורה. I distinctly remember how אברהם ברוך, though he was considered a more senior תלמיד than I, always said hello and shared a few friendly words. This as a teenager was a rare kindness given the typical status shtik between grades as is prevalent in all schoolyards. Not surprisingly, almost 50 years later these days when I would bump into אברהם ברוך (I’m… Read more »
Devoted chosid and family man. He will be missed.
Horav Avraham Boruch A”H was a MASHPIA to all with the ability to “Relocate” the “Dislocated”.
Among his many talents he was able to relocate dislocated joints.
Once, shabbos after the Rebbe’s Farbrengen, before going home to his family, he came over to my house to relocate my firstborn infant son’s shoulder, who was crying in terrible pain, and soothed him and everyone around him.
He was a spiritual and physical healer.
Avroham Boruch you will forever be missed.
May you be a “Guter Better” for your family and “klal Yisroel”.
