JCM Evacuated After Bomb Threat

The Jewish Children’s Museum was evacuated after a bomb threat was received. The FBI and bomb squad are on the scene.

By COLlive reporter

The Jewish Children’s Museum in Brooklyn's Crown Heights neighborhood has been evacuated after a threat to the facility was received, joining many Jewish institutions who recently received similar notices.

Devorah Halberstam, Director of Foundations and Government services told COLlive that a member of the Museum's staff received an email stating that there is more than one bomb in the building.

Sources said the bomb threat may have been a response to an article Halberstam wrote on immigration and was posted last night on the New York Daily News website.

The building has been evacuated, and the FBI and bomb squad are on the scene, and the NYPD has called for a level 1 mobilization.

The museum will remain closed today, as NYPD will be searching the entire building with bomb sniffing dogs.

The museum is located at 792 Eastern Parkway in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn. It is across the street from Chabad World Headquarters – 770 Eastern Parkway.

770 was not affected by the evacuation.

The NYPD has notified to expect traffic delays, possible road closures, and a heavy presence of emergency personnel in the area of Kingston Avenue and Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn. Consider alternate routes and allow for additional travel time, they said.

Scary
Hashem Yerachaim. Don't let these terrorists start in Crown Heights. The fact that they are doing their stuff in Israel is bad enough.
On a day like taanis Ester, when the eibishter sees how many people are not fasting, he is calling on us to do teshuva

It was only a matter of time
JCM is a high-profile place. What security is going to be in place in 770 & our schools? And I don't understand, why can't the FBI & Homeland Security find out who's doing this? I thought they are supposed to be experts. Bring in Shabak.

FBI can't track IP addresses that go through a VPN. The people sending these threats are clever. The sender of the email is invisible.

It's amazing how we want things both ways. We get all angry when we find out that the CIA is hacking our phones and TV's to listen in, but then DEMAND it when we are under threat.

This has nothing to do with an actual attack and having security at your building would not have a different outcome.
This is a bomb threat. They know that it's 99% not real but they can't take the chance. It's very easy for a prankster to just send the message and cause an inconvenience to everyone. Just because they have a security guard and can be pretty certain that no one planted a bomb does not mean that they will not need to evacuate

It's not for not fasting
There are people who cannot, but there are enough other reasons. Each of us is aware of our own deficiencies and we need to act thereon.

interesting....
If you read the "threat" carefully, notice the grammar mistakes....

You're point is nonsensical. The JCM could have had the secret service guarding them and they would have still recieved a bomb threat. There's no degree of security that can prevent a nut from sending a threatening email.

Al Tiroh Mipachad Pisom
These people are really enjoying the fear and panic they cause...getting Jewish buildings and institutions evacuated.. Yes we need to act appropriately and take care of any threats or concerns, but it seems like just some immature teenagers looking for fun. Do Not Be Afraid, my fellow yidden! A freilichen purim!!

I really don't think your comment is appropriate! There are people who are freaking out even if it isn't true and you just worries about yourself if you will get your latte...

Honestly mind your own business! I am pretty sure there are plenty mitzvos that you don't do that you can! Not everyone can fast obviously and they have there own reasons, but you have no right to go and blame it on them!!!

Yes. A Nuclear/Atom bomb can destroy way more than five blocks, but I doubt it would be able to fit in JCM.
